Depends on the county. NYC cops are working class unless they get a lot of overtime, but Nassau county cops are solidly middle-class.

Yeah, certain things like death and assaults requiring hospitalizations. Normal assault, car accidents under a certain dollar amount, are discretionary as I have learned, much to my dismay.

Or maybe they don't go in certain neighborhoods much while responding promptly to noise complaints in others.

They work for there money and are not the rich snobs you make them out to be. Law enforcement are blue collar and categorize themselfs in with the working class not the rich. They may make enough (with overtime and second jobs) to provide an ok living, but they are not hob nobing it with the rich. So why would a working class cop favor the rich? The would not.

They are discretionary to the department or shift supervisor, not the individual cop. In other words the department makes a blanket rule, "reports for dollar amounts above whatever". But that means it was not just a rule for you Daisy. It applied to everybody.

Or maybe you are just wrong and they work on priority. Noise complaints being low priority. Your theory also falls flat when you realize that the department in any sizable city is compartmentalized. Meaning the cops in richer neighborhoods are not the same cops in poor neighborhoods. SO the cops in the rich hoods only deal with that hood. The cops in the poor neighborhoods only deal with that hood. So the cops dont have to choose weather to go to the rich neighborhood or the poor they each have officers assigned to each of them and only them.

In the end you are just one of those people who like to talk bad about law enforcement, while enjoying the protection they give you.

Huh? I made them out to be "working class" and "solidly middle class" - how do you translate that to "rich snobs"? Seriously, that is q u i t e a stretch.

Treating rich people differently from poor people is hardly "hobnobing" and over $100,000 is not rich but it is not working poor either.

The bosses favor the rich so the peons do, too.

No, the rules vary for the individuals; it did not apply to everybody.

I'm going by studies and experience.

No, I've had both good and bad experiences with cops. I don't talk bad about them, but they do treat rich & famous people differently.

Does not sound like you made them out to be working class to me.

What Police Officer makes over $100,000?

The bosses are also working class making only a little more then what you call the peons.

Just what is your law enforcement experience? Getting pulled over does not give you knowlege as to how a police department works.

Accusing them of not caring for the poor and middle class as much as the rich is talking bad about them.

A police cheif in Redwood Ca, is not reprisentitive of the police accros this nation.

I dont know how much it cost to live in those places and I dont know if the counts overtime. But I do know that these few exceptions are the very very small number of exceptions. The police you are likely to meet pulling you over probaby makes between $30 to 50,000 a year.

That's fine but that wasn't your question. There are many law enforcement professionals throughout America making over $100k a year.

I should have limited my question to avg. on the street police. I was not thinking about the cheif of police. Lets just say %98 of Officers are well under $100,000 a year.

In case you were thinking about a career change to Trooper Rufus

    Texas Troopers start at

    $33,300

and after 20 years end up at

    $57,480

Of course if you make Sgt. with 20 years you can make up to

    63,720

Yup, these guys are going to favor the rich.

These men and women who protect our lives daily and teachers that teach our children are way underpaid. And a lawyer is worth what?

I agree, the pay is low because nether teachers or officers make any money. They are all expense without any profit making ability.

The benifits are pretty good and they are rewarding jobs. That is why people do them. But it would be alot easier if people like Daisy and her ilk would look at all the benifits they take from police and fire instead of complaining and making false acusations. Blameing the worlds problems on them.

I realize that some police officers make decent salaries.

However, I don't get how that compares with the OP.

Since 1980, the upper 10% of this country have made a larger piece of the pie in the USA while they have outsourced the jobs of the lower 60% of our country. In the process of this transfer of wealth, I believe that our country is loosing a significant amount of lost tax revenue and wealth that used to be spread among the lower 60% of our people in this country.

I still do not believe that it is a godly thing to give the wealth here that helped the poor Americans to other countries just so that a few people at the top could keep a bigger piece of the pie.

If they did this out of real Christian charity, I could believe that they were doing a courageous thing. However, I see that this is driven by greed.

Happy New Year & Merry Christmas.
