The Surrender of Gen Lee

    Was the surrender of Gen Lee to Gen Grant actually legal? Did Gen Lee have authority from the CSA to end the War?

    IIRC, Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia, not the CSA.

    So, is the CSA still valid goverment....

    No, not any more than any other defeated government. Multiple other armies surrendered, President Davis was captured, and federal soldiers occupied the South. The CSA had nothing left to govern.
