42% of our taxes go to the Deficit.

I don't understand what you mean by 42% of our taxes go to the deficit. Money does not go to the deficit. The deficit is caused by overspending. Was your statement meant to mean our government spends 42% more than the tax revenue collected?

I believe this war with Iran has been mishandled by Trump from the very beginning. In fact, I don't see how anyone can believe a word that comes out of his mouth. In June of last year after the attacks on the Iranian facilities where uranium was being enriched, Trump claimed they were obliterated and it would take years before Iran was capable of enriching uranium again. Then eight months later, he states Iran is only a couple of weeks away from having a nuclear weapon and a month away from destroying not just Israel but the Middle East. The question comes down which of his statements were true?

How many times did we hear him say since February we were just days or a few weeks from having peace? I think what he's doing is manipulating the stock market and helping out the American oil industry. As oil prices increase, so do the oil companies' profits. How much do you think the cost of pumping oil out of domestic wells has increased because of this war? None. It's basic Economics 101, that when the demand for something is much higher than the available supply, prices to the consumer increase.

"Well, Mr. Foxmeister, our 401K's are doing great right now." So, what. What will those 401K's be worth when you're eligible to draw money from them? The one's benefiting from that now are the companies whose stock prices are increasing because of this war. It gives them more capital now. It does nothing for you, now.

We must remember Eisenhower's warning of the military-industrial complex, that the alliance between the armed forces and a permanent defense industry. He cautioned that this powerful, profit-driven network could gain undue influence and threaten American democracy and individual liberties.

I thought it was equivalent to debt, or we payed that on interest. I would have to rewatch it to be sure.

Probably it is the interest we pay -- and when the interest is more than the basic budget - we are really in trouble!

So Far in FY 26 - we have spent over 1 trillion in interest at about 3.409% and we have 2 full months till the end of the Fiscal Year! https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/interest-expense-avg-interest-rates/
The point I was making is a deficit is when total spending is more than total revenue during the fiscal year. Debit is the total all remaining past deficits combined. What's sad is how Congress disregards the information provided by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. Primarily the projected tax revenues for the upcoming fiscal year.

Net interest on the public debt consumes roughly 13.5% to 14% of the total federal budget for the 2026 fiscal year. The CBO says because of high interest rates and increasing debt, we'll see an annual interest payment of $1 trillion out of $7.5 trillion in revenue.

I think the OP mentioned 19% goes to the interest. But who knows. You are right, no tax money pays the deficit (this is not how the deficit works). What is paid by taxes is the intrest.

24% of our debt is intragovernmental debt.
76% is held by the public

Of the publically held debt:
24% is held by foreign investors
42% is held by domestic investors (mutual funds, saving bonds,, pension funds)
13% is held by the Federal Reserve

(Percentages are approximate)

The debt is a running total of past deficits. The government isues bonds, notes and bills. When these come to an end the government issues new ones to pay investors who invested on the old ones. Taxes pay the interest on the debt. The deficit is the shortfall between what is collected and what has been issued in bills, bonds and notes.
