Recently there was a major 3 day carnival like fair in my area and thousands from around Denver metro attended. What a great opportunity for evangelism and I passed out 500 million dollar bill tracts, and a number of the grim reaper tract that I had mentioned in a previous thread some weeks ago. 9/10 people took the tracts and Lord willing many read and considered the contents of the tracts. Are you ready for a similar event in your area? Are you always ready to reach the Lost? How do you respond to large gatherings in your area, or would you rather just ignore your task to reach the lost? Of the many that took my tracts no doubt some will not be around a year later, so given the one chance I had to reach these people in all eternity I did my best to do so. And there goes another moment gone forever. Go share your faith while you still have time.

Don't you have similar events in your area? You can pass them out as well.

Did you leave your contact information on the tract (even a separate e-mail that you use specifically for this like "evantracts at gmail" or something) so that people can contact you and you can assist them in their beginning their walk in the Lord?

I've held back posting in Evan's threads because they are repetitious, covering ground already covered.

It all started 4-5 years ago when he asked the board's opinion on handing out the million dollar tract. Just about everyone said they thought it was a bad idea, especially when left as tips in restaurants. Still, Evan plows on, probably because his hero Ray Comfort advises to use these sorts of tracts. Evan has a habit of telling everyone how great he is at giving out tracts, especially the dollar bill tracts.

    The Most Realistic Money Tracts

    Awesome new gospel tract

The new Way of the Master million dollar bill

The perfect tract for the political season

    The Death of Timothy

After umpteen times hearing about this, there is a sort of weary recognition of "here we go again."

Ok. Thanks for the history. I figured there had to be some reason.

For the 40 booklet type tracts I passed out yes. But the 500 money tracts and the grim reaper tracts there is no room for that.

Tracts are Evan's little prayer wheel. Just as the superstitious believe a prayer has been offered each time it rotates, Evan thinks each tract he passes out is the harvest of a soul.

Meanwhile, his real work was in delivering his ex wife from the legalism of thinking one shouldn't kiss and grope before marriage (much to the delight of her father, I'm sure), and now it's in his long conversations with this new charismatic chick.

    He should use chick tracts.

You just stick a sticker on the back. It isn't hard to make room.

So how do you follow up on them. The great commission is 3 fold. Why ignore 2/3 of it?

Then you remove content from the tract.

Our churches often will get together with the purpose of reaching out to people with the gospel. When we have local festivals in the summer we will typically pass out water which often provides an opportunity to share the gospel. I don’t live very far from Manchester TN and a group from a couple of churches goes to Bonnaroo and sets up a tent for shade and water with the same purpose. I don’t know the impact that these guys have experienced.

What we do is involve ourselves in our community. Last year we had a fall festival at the church and this proved an opportunity to witness not only to the youth but to many parents. We had not been members of that church for long, but this type of event resulted in over 12 baptisms (this is a medium sized church…about 250 members). I remember taking note that there were a couple of teenagers but most were adults in their early 30’s and up. I find this significant for a couple of reasons. First, these were not people enticed by things like fall festivals (cotton candy and bouncy houses). Second, they are still among us. We also have a few people who were saved through the hospital ministry.

My wife and I have helped in these festivals and we've helped with the youth outreach. I do not believe that we are saved for the sake of being saved, but rather that God creates us in Christ for good works which He has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. We are saved with a purpose far greater than ourselves.
