I sympathize with this young man.

One thing everyone must remember when they are entering another country is that once you cross the boarder you are under their laws. If any on the BB travel to another country do not forget this simply fact, you are under their laws while there.

While traveling in Mexico, you are subject to Mexican laws and not U.S. laws. Tourists who commit illegal acts have no special privileges and are subject to full prosecution under the Mexican judicial system.

Those "laws" only apply to the rich Americans. I know, I lived in Mexico for several years.

Even more reason to be very careful. Always remember when you are in another country you have no special privileges there. Law in Mexico is based on the old Castilion law, you are guilty until proven innocent.

If I read the OP link correctly, this man thought he had complied when he had paperwork completed with regards to his grandfather's gun. That's much different, IMO, from willfully disregarding another nation's laws.

Based on what I understand now (qualifier!), the responsibility for this man's plight changed from himself to the person who prepared the paperwork for him for that firearm to cross the border. According to the article, trouble started when he presented those documents to border agents.

Again, if the US were subjecting a Mexican citizen to what was described in the article, wouldn't the streets be filled in angry protest?

Only if you don't pay the "mordida" (the bribe). If you pay the bribe, ransom, or whatever you can be found innocent of any crime in Mexico.

If we treated their people in prison here the same as they treat our people there, there would be a hue and cry of racism or a lack of compassion.

It's a double standard.

Please, please pray for this young man and his family. They are fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Here are two additional websites which better explain the situation:

http://www.businessinsider.com/this-us-marine-is-currently-chained-to-a-bed-in-drug-cartel-wing-of-mexican-prison-2012-12

http://www.examiner.com/article/marine-mexican-jail-family-petitions-white-house-for-his-release

Please note that he fully complied with both American and Mexican laws and even attempted to properly register the gun when he crossed the border. The story will be on Anderson Cooper tonight and will be on Fox News tomorrow.

Please pray and then pray some more. Also, there is an online petition to the White House. Please go on line and sign this. Thank you.

Correction:

The parents will be on Fox and Friends tomorrow morning. They will be on A360 with Anderson Cooper on CNN tomorrow evening. Please watch and share this information with others.

It is outrageous, but just the latest incident. I recall the story of a man who took a wrong exit in El Paso, Texas and found himself crossing the border with a single bullet that landed him in Mexican jail for months.

Anderson Cooper will have an in depth conversation with the parents this evening. Also, they will be on Hannity this afternoon.

They were not on Anderson Cooper last night, as this was delayed to the tragic shooting at a Portland Mall. Perhaps this will be on this evening. Also, the Sean Hannity show has moved this to today or tomorrow. However, it is on his web page at www.hannity.com.

Update ----

This is now the lead story on www.foxnews.com -- please take a moment to read this if you get a chance.

Also, our congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is having a press conference this morning in order to put additional pressure on the state department.

He did not commit an illegal act. This is about extortion by the drug cartels.

And we need to go and get him.

The story was the "talking points" of Bill O'Reilly's show last night. You can check this out if you missed it on television --

http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/oreil...ing-secure-release-marine-corporal-jon-hammar#

There is a white house petition on line. Please take a minute out of your day to look this us and sign this. Also, please share with others and have them do the same. The only way to get this young man home is to keep up the political and media pressure.
