A Northwestern University professor Wyndham Lathem, whose research included
academic work on the bacteria that causes plague, and Oxford University employee
Andrew Warren, are both charged with the stalking and murder of Trenton James
Cornell-Duraneau, a Michigan resident living in Chicago back on Thur 27 July 2017.
The motive?
Cook County D.A. alleges that Lathem and Warren had planned this murder for
months since the two met online. They decided to murder someone and then kill
one another as part of a sexual fantasy.
Many at Northern university sent letters via defense counsel, to the judges before the trial,
requesting leniency citing his professional and academic achievements at the university.
One man suggested in his letter to the judge recommending the judge grant bail for Professor
Lathem, then Lethem could live with this man until the trial. The media did not, and will not
disclose the identities of the letter writers.
