Toyota recalls Corolla Hatchbacks

Toyota is recalling 3,400 Corolla Hatchbacks for transmission problems with their widely used CVT or continuous variable transmission. People who own the Hatchback will get a new transmission.

Transmissions seem to be a weak point with today's cars. Old-fashioned shift transmissions seem to be more reliable. People want cars that will go a quarter of a million miles or more.

The recall is for automatic Corollas only, because the culprit is the new "Direct Shift-CVT" Toyota introduced for the first time in this car.
