Depends on what kind of Baptist churches - the ABC, CBF, and the Alliance of Baptists , among others, tend to be very liberal.

There was no "established church authority" in the New Testament. Sure, Paul made suggestions, but he did not force them on the churches, and he certainly had no power to persecute or kill them if they didn't "obey", like the later RCC did. The apostles would have been appalled at such a thing, a complete contradiction and denial of the gospel.

I'd like to, but with all the crazies on the loose these days, I think I should not.

What would a "liberal" Baptist look like?

Please provide tangible evidence. I want to see these Baptists for myself.
A link to their websites would be helpful.

One who asks for tangible evidence before I believe someone's claim. I want to see these Baptists for myself.

    Thank you.
I know that some Baptist churches fall into sin. Your link is helpful.
Fountain Street Baptist (Grand Rapids, MI), many, many years ago, fell into liberalism and ultimately became a Unitarian/Universalist church.
It doesn't surprise me to see a church fall.
I had not heard of the Baptist denomination mentioned as the denomination that welcomed this church.
We live in a time where Jezebel is tolerated in some of our churches.

    I have informed people.
I attend a North American Baptist Church. I have been a member for 14 years now. The specific church I attend has pastor's who are Reformed Baptist in theology, accepting the London Confession of 1689.
Here's the Confession if you want.

Liberal theology and liberal politics have quote a bit of overlap. But they are two different things.

Liberal theology is a product of the Enlightenment, so they take a low view of Scripture, it's inerrancy and authority, it historical accuracy and the miracles and divine characters within.

A brief overview of a few key people should help, granted they weren't baptists:

    Julius Wellhausen - Wikipedia

    Rudolf Bultmann - Wikipedia

    Friedrich Schleiermacher - Wikipedia

Thank you - I was unaware - I did not see it listed on your profile.

You mentioned - that you are the kind of Baptist who asks for evidence.

Well, in this particual situation - I find it very unusual that you are unaware of the
extreme liberalism in many of the Baptist Groupsl

There are some national news stories that would make us notice.
For Example - back in 1976 when Jimmy Carter, ran for POTUS- he
introuced the nation to he term "Born Again" His faith was part of
his campaign. It was well know that he was a Southern Baptist
as was his church, Plains Baptist
Then in 2000, Carter annouced he was leaving the SBC over his
    liberal issues.
Now, I dont know your age - but if you were born before 1980, you should
have been aware of this action by President Carter.

Being a member of a Baptist church for the past 14 years, they you should
have been aware of libealism creeping into so many churches and denominations.

Just wondering - are you aware of the status of the Americian Baptist Churches,
the Copperative Baptist Fellowshiop, and the Alliance of Baptists?

I find it very surprisng that you are not aware of these groups. That would be
like saying "I need evidence that Ford Motor Company - builds trucks"
I would say that would be considered common knowedge.

Likewise a Baptist (for 14 years) should have the common knowledg of
    of other Baptist groups.

And in this day and age - of the computer - it is very easy to find this information.

Salty, I know about the Southern Baptists, Missionary Baptists, Baptist General Conference (Converge), General Association of Regular Baptists, Independent Baptists and Conservative Baptists. I don't look for every denomination of Baptist known to man as I am very happy to be in my church with my rather small denomination. Clearly you know more about the flavors of Baptists than I do.
That being said, I still ask for tangible evidence when a claim of your nature is made. Walpole provided a good example. It was what I asked for and I appreciated his post.

So you are saying you dont see the need to research things yourself.

and granted - with close to some 100 baptist denominations I would not expect most people to know everthing about every baptist groups -
but we should have a general knowledge of the top 15 or 20.

    Yep.

There, of course, is a fine line between describing someone and “name-calling”. If you ban all “name-calling”, sometimes this stifles conversation and simply pushes the “name-calling” into some other form of language which basically describes the same thing.

Calling John Wimber a heretic is wrong on many forums but saying that one believes that the preaching of John Wimber is heretical is “ok”?

It conveys the same meaning and becomes a stupid argument of semantics and grammar.

I'm saying that you made a statement you should back up with facts. It is not incumbent on the listener to research. It is incumbent on the one making an assertion to prove their assertion.
Walpole did your job for you.

Why do you say that Wimber is a heretic?
