A school down in South Carolina used Martin King Day (scheduled day off) as a make up day due to excessive snow days.

There were two points of views given:
Scroll down just a bit for the video

From the link:
“We’re urging people to keep their kids home,” Mr.(AL) Sharpton said. “It’s un-American not to observe the holiday.”

State Representative John R. King was not OK with the decision. King plans to introduce a bill next week that would require the entire state to close schools on the King holiday.

Charlotte, NC also used MLK as a makeup day

And, what else would you expect from such an unamerican?

These same people are the ones that decried the excessive number of Federal Holidays forcing the combining of Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays...

Now as important as MLK is for a very small part of our populace, he didn't hold a candle to either Washington or Lincoln...

MLK and Black History Month is a grand scheme to keep black people from joining the American main stream as most every other historical minority has.

Absolutely right on.

If black people want to stay home from school to honor Martin Luther King, then that's their right. It's kind of ironic that they would choose to stay out of school to honor a guy who emphasized the importance of black people getting an education, but then, black people do a lot of things that don't make sense.

But the rest of us shouldn't be forced to celebrate their holidays or their history month.

I think that's the most racist comment I've ever seen here on BB. Um, ALL people do things that don't make sense to others. Black, white, protestant, Catholic, liberal, conservative, Democrat or Republican.

And MLK day is not just for black people, it's for ALL of us to remember and learn from the past.

Maybe I am off track, but I think it is strictly up to the local school board, or the state level at the most. That is where all educational policy should be set.

Well then I guess it's a good thing nobody asked your opinion.

Um, ALL people do things that don't make sense to others. Black, white, protestant, Catholic, liberal, conservative, Democrat or Republican.

So then why am I not allowed to say that black people do things that don't make sense?

And MLK day is not just for black people, it's for ALL of us to remember and learn from the past.

Honestly? There are far better people to learn from.

As a teacher, I know many teachers who used to use MLK day as an entire day to teach the history of the man, and of his importance and influence in society. But, now that it has become a day off school, the day has lost it's impact on the students, and the man is not given an entire day in the curriculum as he was before. They basically ended up causing the students to be educated less about that part of history, by making it a school holiday, and would have done better to leave it alone.

Because you singled out an entire race of people by just identifying blacks and implying that they're the only ones that do things that don't make sense.

That, my friend, is racist. Because I know plenty of whites, asians, hispanics, etc. that do things that don't make sense.

Like singling out blacks for statements like this.

Don, read the entire thread before letting your emotions put your finger tips in gear...

The statement was a statement of the way things are as very strongly proven by your post...

It's alright to call attention to lapses and indescretions for anyone and everyone except Blacks.

Because to do say makes you a racist!

To which I say, dairy farm pasture accessories!

I've mulled this one over for a bit and, sorry to say, it is a racist statement. I don't know if you meant it that way or not and I understand the cold print on the cool computer screen does not carry inflection at all ... and of course body language is not shown.

But the rest of us shouldn't be forced to celebrate their holidays or their history month.

Should others be forces to celebrate our, whatever they are, holidays? I have no idea what "our holidays" might mean. You statement seems rather illogical to me in that it is not "their" holiday. It is a general holiday for a historic American. What you think of that person, favorable or unfavorable is another topic.

Crabtownlittleboy, of all of the people here, your opinion is by far the most meaningless to me.

Yes, I singled out black people. And since you're obviously having a hard time keeping up with the topic of this thread, the reason I singled out black people is because the OP is referring to one specific person, who is black and who is most closely associated with one specific group, which is the black community.

That's fine. We all have members on the board who we take seriously and those we do not. That is the privileges of all of us.

I did give you the benefit of the doubt. I do not know if you noted that or not.

I notice in your reply you attempted to insult me ... but that reflects more on you than on me. I am not sure if misusing another's screen name is a board violation or not. But is does show who appears little.

Also, you did not answer my question.

Blessings.

The overwhelming majority's allegiance to the political party that has done more to destroy their families than any other entity does come to mind when I read this. I do see the irony.

Just a sidenote, MLK was a republican.

Alonzo Rachel addressed this in one of his videos and had one of the best lines I've heard: "When black people get into bed with liberalism, all they've done is to trade one plantation for another."

There is no major difference between black trash popular culture and white trash popular culture. What is trash culture? Take a quick look at "Judge Judy" or the other 'judge' TV programs. I wouldn't want any of them as neighbors and that includes the judges.

There was a thread exposing examples of liberal racism, recently, with great examples, and not one intelligent argument against it offered.

It sure is a lot easier to cry "racist" than to examine the results of a failed ideology.
