Try telling your "truth" to the hundreds of thousands of people who have been laid off during 2008.

Hardly a consensus and there are always...always gloom and doom predictors amongst economists. And none of your sources go back to 2007.

You ask for references ... I gave you references.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

The truth is that the recession, at lest up to this point, has been so mild that regular people had no idea they were in one.

If your statement is true why are applications for food stamps at an all time high?

Food stamps are the symbol of poverty in the US. In the era of the credit crunch, a record 28 million Americans are now relying on them to survive – a sure sign the world's richest country faces economic crisis

Why are record numbers of people showing up at food banks?

"We have seen a 100 percent increase in demand in the last year and food donations have dropped precipitously," says Dana Wilkie, CEO of the Community Food Bank in Fresno, Calif.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- They've come with their bags, boxes, carts, and even sacks. And they've battled the cold while standing in line for more than an hour. It’s all to get some fresh food to put on the table.

"We're actually serving more food insecure families, and those are folks that are working one, maybe two minimum wage jobs, and their still not making ends meet," Gina Santodonato, Director of Marketing for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, said.

Reminds me of what I believe originated with Reagan:

A recession is when someone else loses their job and a depression is when you lose yours. A recovery is firing Jiommy Carter.

Or words to that effect.

Then document those "hundreds of thousands". subtract the new jobs that have been created.

Then lead me to 'em. I'll be glad to tell them there was recession going on. It's certain they won't know about it otherwise.

There are none so blind as those who see what's not there...

if it fits their political ideology.

Democrats have been rooting for a lousy economy for years and their wishes finally bore fruit.

You need to take your blinders off, do some of your own research and find out what is happening in our world. Your opinion may be precious to you, but you never have facts to back it up. So it is simply opinion with no meaning.

Cheers.

We're not seeing much of a recession in S. Texas. On the news this morning the head of the local jobs agency said that the problem is there are not enough people who are looking for work in this area.

Granted- the jobs are not all high-paying factory jobs because we don't have many manufacturing plants here in S. Texas (they tend to be across the border in MX) but many of the jobs open here are jobs that pay in the range of $9-10 an hour to start.

If democrats try hard enough and the media keeps forecasting doom, they can eventually make it happen.

Economists also predicted a Clinton recession.

Your replies make me wonder if you have every read any newspaper, news magazine, economics magazine or if you simply form opinion after you hear a statement.

There was a recession that some call the Clinton recession. It is argued over at to whose recession it really was.

You can find your own link.

I guess you have not notice, the gloom is already here. The county I live in in the States is experiencing it largest budget shortfall in history, because of declining intake of taxes that are a result of the declining economy. The shortfall is at 35 million now and growing. And all this before Obama takes office, but I have confidence you will blame him for the disasters of the list 8 years.
