I think it was Biden who I normally disagree with who came up with the best exit solution. Deal with the protests and divide the country into an autonomous confederacy that shares oil revenues and defense but otherwise maintain their own civil affairs.

I have friends and a brother in the military - Marines and Navy. They all say that the vast majority of Iraqis are happy that we are there and would take a militarized state over what they had before any day - because now there's hope! What you hear in the news is a pretty slanted view, of course. The fact that so many come and cry, welcoming the soldiers is a pretty clear view of what people really feel there.

It is a great tragedy that this woman and her mother (I think it was her mother) had to die. When you are warned to stop, you must stop. I'm sure her brother was panicky to disobey warning shots cost him is mother's and sister's lives.

Biden didn't come up with anything. That's a CFR plan..."The Three State Solution". http://www.cfr.org/publication.html?id=6559

STOP OR I'LL SHOOT! Hard to understand? Irresponsible on the part of the husband (or whoever was driving) NOT to heed such a warning.

DANGER! HIGH VOLTAGE! Would you put your hand on it? DANGER! TOXIC! Would you drink it? Simple stuff.

Just a little while ago you were CP, were you not? Then a short time ago you were in love with President Bush. Now you're a member of the Libertarians, aye?

    1) But in this case we walked up to his driveway and busted down his door and starting shooting him - and he didn't even have a gun.

    2) If Iraq had WMDs in March 2003, then why were they not used when it was Hussein's only chance at victory. Instead he ran and hid in a hole in the earth. To believe that Iraq had WMDs in March 2003 is to believe in a fairy tale. Unfortunately, the Bush administration sold that fairy tale to millions of we Americans. History will judge President Bush quite harshly for it.

It happened last month at Self Ridge Air Base in Macomb, Michigan.
    http://www.macombdaily.com/stories/051906/loc_selfridge001.shtml

When you disregard the commands of people with guns, you have no excuse when you get shot. It is sad and tragic, but it was completely avoidable by following the commands that were given. These people died because they entered a militarized zone against regulations. The soldiers did exactly what they should have done and were trained to do. We should be thankful that someone is standing up for freedom and willing to fight for it.

Anyone remember a certain guy who drove through checkpoints in Beirut back in 1983? Do you wish some soldier standing on guard would have shot him? If he would have, more than two hundred marines would still be alive.

You see, for those willing to actually think about the issue, these checkpoints exist for good reason. And you don't just ignore them.

Funny how the Iraqi killed this way gets major attention and complaining, but there was precious little said when it happened in Michigan.

Actually, I have been a libertarian since 1980 when I voted for Ed Clark for president. I just have not always voted for the Libertarian Party presidential candidate. I wish I had in 2000 and 2004 instead of voting for our failure of a president - George W. Bush.

It finally became too great of a task to try to justify my votes for George W. Bush so I just had to admit my mistakes and move on.

My only vote for a CP candidate was in 1992.

Nope. If he had them, he was a threat to use them on us at virtually any time... it would have been no greater feat than hijacking commercial planes and using them for bombs.
There is some evidence that those weapons were moved. Perhaps he didn't think the US would go through with it but instead was just trying to force him to accept further inspections. Maybe he thought he'd somehow survive and couldn't afford to be caught with the weapons.

Who knows? Saddam had been known to miscalculate before.
Where are the unaccounted for weapons Ken? If it is a fairy tale then it should be a very easy matter to tell me this.
Depends on who writes the history and if the future actions of Islamofascists facing a passive President vindicates Bush or not. Bush will not only be judged on what he does but what happens after he leaves office when someone else employs a different method.

I suspect that history will bear out that he was right about Islamic extremism and the threat it poses. Unfortunately, our children may not be able to read that history if our posture slackens.

Since your side started this war and still supports this insanity, it is incumbent upon your side to prove that the WMDs existed.

    Hey Ken.

Come to Jacksonville sometime and try to blow through the front gate of the LRAFB and see how far you get and what the end result is. Is that Bush's fault too?

Assuming that's true (which it isn't), what difference does it make? Right now, in Iraq, you have people trying to kill other people. Do you not think we should address that with steps of protection? I do. But I guess perhaps that's where you and I are different.

Why didn't you complain when it happened in America? Why don't you complain that these people didn't follow orders? Why do you attack the brave men and women who are putting their lives on the line every day for freedom and life? You continue to make no sense, Ken.

Not making sense is a characteristic of most liberals and libertarians. Could have something to do with their stance on legalizing drugs.

Since Ken hasn't ever been to Iraq, I'll take the word of folks who have.

    bad taste

    HTML:
"Ever hear of killing 2 birds with one stone?"
In my opinion, the above quote from page one is in really bad taste.

I quite agree. I was too shocked to even respond to it. He's shown himself to be a good guy, around here. I hope he apologizes for this.

My brother, CWO3 Timothy Rathburn's been there three times, and just re-upped, so he'll most likely go back. He was last there at the end of '04. I've talked with other vets, as well. They disagree with your assessment.

You say the whole country's been militarized, yet you have never been there.
