Ukraine official: Russian troops have launched an 'armed invasion' of Crimea

Russian troops moved into Crimea Friday, U.S. officials told Fox News, prompting Ukraine to accuse Russia of an "armed invasion."

At the White House, President Obama said the U.S. government is "deeply concerned" by reports of Russian "military movements" and warned any violation of Ukraine's sovereignty would be "deeply destabilizing."

"There will be costs" for any military intervention, he said, without specifying what those costs might be.

U.S. officials told Fox News they see “evidence of air and maritime movement into and out of Crimea by Russian forces” although the Pentagon declined to officially "characterize" the movement.
Special Report with Bret Baier on FNC showed cell phone video sent to them from Crimea by a Ukrainian citizen showing Russian utility and combat helicopters crossing the border illegally and landing troops this morning at airports near Simferopol and Simvastapol, securing the airports while allowing commercial flights to continue. Military observers, upon seeing the videos from the airports, identify the troops as Russian Spetsnaz -- Russian special forces -- even though the troops uniforms bear no insignia.

This is an invasion. Nothing less. The democracy-loving peoples of Ukraine are about to brought back under the flag of a neo-Soviet republic craved by Russian president Vladimir Putin. This is only the first violation of a sovereign nation by the Russians. More will follow. The world is facing a crisis, and the only nation capable of responding appropriately is run by a Little Marxist Dictator in his own right, who hasn't the guts or the desire to respond as needed.

George W. Bush got the Russians out of Georgia in 2007 with two phone calls. Our Marxist dictator likely doesn't even know where the "red phone" is.

Romney nailed it in the debates and Obama just smugly suggested the 80's wants their policy back. Obama is not just naive but he is just plain ignorant and in over his head.

Not defending the Russians here but how many times has Washington violated the sovereignty of other nations with your blessing?

History has shown that playing soft with the Russian government just doesn't work. President Obama had better get up to speed and quick or this situation could get worse and in a hurry.

Found this summery explaining what's going and why

http://www.news.com.au/world/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-protests-in-kiev-ukraine/story-fndir2ev-1226808390931

Comes from an Australian newspaper

Why is it happening?

Protesters had been fighting against President Viktor Yanukovych's ongoing refusal to sign a political and economic association pact with the EU after pressure from Russia.

The Ukrainian government had been working for years on a landmark trade deal with the European Union. In a sudden change of heart, Yanukovych backed out last November.

Eventually it was admitted, Russian pressure led to the turn around.

The deal would have seen Ukraine citizens allowed to travel through the EU without visas; in return Ukraine would adopt hundreds of laws and regulations, and a program of sweeping reforms.

To activists, the choice between Russia or Europe is a symbol of the plans for the future of Ukraine.

So the only choice according to this writer is for the Ukrainians to place themselves under the Russian's thumb or the EU and IMF's thumb?

There's a tug of war going on between Russia and Washington the EU and the IMF to see who gets Ukraine under their thumb.

The question of why the Ukrainians would want to be under either thumb is never questioned by the mainstream press. It's just assumed they'll choose to be under the EU and the IMF's thumb.

Wonder why?

Hungary and Greece made the same choice. Look at how that's turning out. Now they owe their souls and everything else to the IMF.

Ukraine Transition Government:

Neo-Nazis in Control of Armed Forces, National Security, Economy, Justice and Education

by: Greg Rose

The ultra-right Svoboda Party has scored six major cabinet ministries in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk approved by the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday. Svoboda is the Neo-Nazi, ultra-right, anti-Semitic, Russophobic party with its base of support in the Western Ukraine.

The most important post was claimed by a co-founder of Svoboda, Andriy Parubiy. He was named Secretary of the Security and National Defense Committee, which supervises the defense ministry and the armed forces.

The Parubiy appointment to such an important post should, alone, be cause for international outrage. He led the masked Right Sector thugs who battled riot police in the Independence Maidan in Kiev.

The Right Sector is an openly fascist, anti-Semitic and anti-Russian organization. Most of the snipers and bomb throwers in the crowds were connected with this group.

Right Sector members have been participating in military training camps for the last two years or more in preparation for street activity of the kind witnessed in the Ukraine over the last few months.

The Right Sector, as can be seen by the appointment of Parubiy, is now in a position to control major appointments to the provisional government and has succeeded in achieving its long time goal of legalizing discrimination against Russians. The new parliament has passed legislation that declares Russian speakers no longer have equal rights with Ukrainians.

He is also associated with Prime Minister Yatsenyuk’s Fatherland Party. Dmytro Yarosh, leader of the Right Sector delegation in parliament, was named Parubiy’s deputy. These appointments of open fascists to control of the armed forces are particularly alarming given the possibility of provocations against the Russian naval base in Sevastopol.
