I think that refusing to become a member is not something that rises to kicking someone out, as that would be reserved for gross unrepentant sinning, and also heretical teachings and doctrines!

He's been exposed to the Word of God. And if God wants him to continue to be exposed to His Word, He will take care of that.

But for now, it's time for him to either join, where he can be under the authority of the church, or go.

Do you practice church discipline in your church?

Church discipline is moot in this case since this gentleman is not a member of the church. Certainly, the pastor/elders/deacons can talk to him about his refusal to join, but pushing him out the door is wrong. I have learned that there is a lot we do not know about people. That includes their reasons and motivations. Also, it seems like God is taking care of him being exposed to the Word of God. Your pastor does preach the word, does he not?

This just in - The pastor has been in poor health he has missed a few weeks. The pastor announced that this non-member is to be in charge if the pastor is absent.
This is actual fact - not "gossip"
Also this non-member has a Bible study in his home on Monday nights.
There is a lot more to this story -which I prefer not to make public at this time.

Your snotty dig at my church aside, I disagree. Church discipline is very relevant, as it is a Biblical example of the Church protecting its integrity.

Sounds like it's time to leave that church.

How can he be leading the flock, when he is not really a part of that flock?

Far as I'm concerned, the BIBLE is the sole arbiter of all matters of faith & worship at this time. I refuse to submit to any "church authority" whose directives are not strictly in line with Scripture. Jesus, speaking thru Paul, clarified the rules about what to eat or not eat, observances & days of worship, manner of dress, etc.

In reality - you bring up a good point.

If you were in such a position -
would you just leave or attempt to correct the shortcomings?
