Understanding Covenant

Several years ago a guest speaker came to my church Grace Chapel, for our annual missionary convention. She gave an absolutely mind-blowing teaching! It had to do with covenant. When we get saved we enter into a covenant with God. Most Christians do not understand covenant, with the exception of the Israelites, they tend to understand this. When we enter into covenant with God we enter under God's "roof", His shelter of protection, and He is obligated to protect us, it is non-negotiable, He must protect us and anyone that curses us is automatically cursed and anyone that blesses us is automatically blessed. Another thing that I discovered, there is a seven-fold curse for breaking God's covenant, this is also automatic and must happen. There is a scripture in the bible that explains this- Judges 19:24.

"Here, take my virgin daughter and this man’s concubine. I will bring them out to you, and you can abuse them and do whatever you like. But don’t do such a shameful thing to this man.”-Judges 19:24.

There was a man who came into the master of this house and entered into covenant with him and came under his covenant protection, he was obligated to do anything to protect him, he was even willing to give up his virgin daughter and the concubine to be abused rather than break covenant and let this man be harmed. What happened to this man's daughter and concubine was a horrible, abominable thing and I am sure the master of the house was horrified at the thought of it, but his covenant protection could not be broken, this explains covenant. We are also under God's covenant protection and He MUST protect us!

This false teaching was delivered by an unqualified person....It is totally false.

11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

The New Covenant is the Covenant God made with Israel, Jeremiah 31:31-34 and the Covenant God says He will keep, Jeremiah 31:34. Hebrews 8:10-12.

Are you saying that Christians that get sick, or are horribly injured, paralyzed, maimed or blinded must not have been real Christians since God is “obligated” to protect them?

Since God is “obligated” to protect those “under His roof”, if you get sick or hurt you must not be a Christian? Is that what you are saying and seem to be so excited about?

What about the times Jesus promised His followers they would suffer persecution? What about Paul stating that all who desire to live a Godly life in Christ will be persecuted?

Paul was beaten numerous times, three times scourged (the forty lashes minus one) which Jesus endured once and left Him unable to carry His cross all the way to Calvary. Paul was stoned once and his body (believed to be dead) was thrown into the trash burn pit. Was Paul not under God’s protection?

How does that fit into this theology?

You are excited over false theology. Those who embrace this false theology will falter and fade once they suffer for the faith, or simply suffer some misfortune in their life.

Word of faith under different labeling?

I’ve been hearing the phrase “God is obligated....... (insert heresy here)” for several decades now and it’s usually part of word of faith theology.

The most common claim I’ve heard is that if you give to “this ministry” God is obligated to give you a hundred fold return. You are only limiting yourself by holding back the donation.

The OP talked about being in covenant with God. When a covenant is made, there is a blessing and curse to that covenant. When it is followed, there is blessing. When it is broken, there is curse. This is very clear in the Sinai/Mosaic covenant.

Hebrews 8:6-13

But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second. For he finds fault with them when he says: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
