I know a lady who is part of an unregistered anabaptist church and they teach some weird ideas. They believe the church is a "safe haven" only for believers and unbelievers are not to be invited to services, including revival services. They believe a church should only choose a pastor from among it's congregation and that candidating is wrong. They also cannot seem to be able to carry on a simple conversation, but must just quote long passages of scripture in order to communicate with others. I guess it's considered sinful to have a normal conversation and the women are completely controlled by their husbands, like property. It all seems very cult-like to me.

I'm glad I checked this thread out.

To those of you who ridicule brother Dixon and his views. Have you even watched his powerpoint? Or have you even bothered to take the time to thouroughly inspect his positions and examine them, both in respect to scripture and in respect to legal considerations?

In light of many recent incidences of government intrusion into the affairs of churches, and the fact that it is illegal in many nations now (including Canada) to preach against sin from the pulpit, and that the same restrictions are being pushed upon the church here in the US, generaly through the venue of retraction of tax exempt status, and seizure/forfeiture of propererty. His experience and views are both understandable and may be of value as well.

As to his position on the AV 1611 bible. It is even the most highly regarded bible by the english professors at Princeton, Yale etc. None of the new translations from spurious manuscripts come within miles of it. Again a bit of research may give some light.

Unregistered churches were the only way to keep the truth of the Word of God taught and the true gospel preached in the Socialist paradises for a lot of years. Considering the slide this nation is taking we may ALL benefit from a bit more knowledge of any methods we may use to maintain our freedom to preach the word and believe according to our conscience rather than federal dictate.

Research and understnding produce far better results than impulsive ridicule.

Since when was it illegal to preach against sin in Canadian pulpits? The law does not montor Canadian pulpits.

I remember when we were jailed in Quebec for preaching the gospel on the streets (1950's) but that was the controlling RC Church in those days.

Cheers, and free in Canada to preach God's word from a pulpit,

    Jim

I'm sure you're familiar with this case. You may have additional details. Any comment?

I don't know, believe in keeping the government out of the church and allowing the church to determine its own way. Also think having to pay taxes on buildings and property might help curb some of the unnecessary building churches do, make them more creative with the uses of their buildings. But know some churches would be in serious trouble if they had to pay taxes on their property just because of where they are located.

Dixon was wrong and his church paid for it in more ways then one.

The thread title reminded me of the Baptist churches in the former USSR that refused compusory registration with the state, because of the compromise that would have involved. Such churches were known as "unregistered Baptist churches".

I imagine there is no such compulsion in the United States.
