If you read down, you'll see Director Andrews say that parents were just getting out of their cars and coming right to the school to get their kids, so they had to make this policy.

I can only imagine the ruckus that caused when school let out and parents got out of their cars to get their children.

Hopefully, arrested this parent instead of making him stand in a line of cars sent the right message to his children and other children, and also to other parents that this kind of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated in our society.

Shameful. Just shameful. School lets out and the parents think they just walk on government property to get their children. UGH!

Maybe if they put some razor fencing up, that would help. The kids could walk out single file through a small opening once a car pulls up that is identified as an approved pick up car and the person inside has shown proper matching identification.

Nobody should be walking anyhow. We're evolved and so much better than that.

Good thing that no potential kidnappers would ever think of snatching the kids while they walk to school in the morning, or Sat, when they play outside, or, or or.

Maybe they could have phased this policy in over time to let parents get used to it, but the method the school now requires is the same method every school I know of across the country expects their children to be picked up. The mistake isn't the policy, the mistake is the way it was abruptly instituted. And arresting the dad. That was uncalled for, although the article does say it appears to the sheriff that the video was selectively edited.

Debating the policy during the end-of-school hours while kids are being picked up was wrong timing. The time to do that is not when all school personnel are trying to monitor the kids leaving, making sure they're actually being picked up by their parents or other authorized adults. He should have come to the school during the day, after making an appointment with the principle and SRO in order to make his concerns known, not at the height of student release.
