A computer tech came to my home, fixed my computer, but left his company logo on my SYSTEM screen, along with the information that they had built, and that they maintain, the system. Not so. I've asked them how to remove this info, they have not responded. I'm working with Windows XP2 SP2. I go to CONTROL PANEL, click on SYSTEM, and there it is. If you know how I can find the file that created it, I'll appreciate your input.

    THANKS! :wavey: :jesus: :godisgood:

Give them another shot; call back and ask for a supervisor.

    Gonna be a registry edit....

I talked to the owner of the company. Doesn't know how it got there. No suggestions. Can you believe that?

Anyway, I found a URL with the logo and words at the end in a folder named TAG, deleted that, and it still popped up. I went into the registry, found the autorun link for the logo and the words, deleted that, and it still pops up, even after I reboot. Something, somewhere, is generating the logo and the words that say they built and service the machine. I've used Google Desktop Search, found suspicious files, deleted them, its still there. Unbelieveable.

I had high hopes, but it didn't work.

    BUT HERE IS WHAT DID!!!!!!!!

    c:\windows\system32

    deleted OEMLOGO.BMP and OEMINFO.BMP

    GONE -- GONE -- GONE !!!!!

    Now, about that SEARCH function..............

HELP! If it had been working I would have found it sooner, I think. I wonder if the tech disabled my SEARCH function, as well. I've found several other changes he made and have meticulously eliminated them, one after the other. Bummer!

Sorry to hear that you got burned. Unfortunately, there are some really unscrupulous people out there who will take advantage of anybody.

When I work on someone's computer, I ask them what they want done. If anything else is involved, I ask first. I will suggest things to them, but they are the final say in what I do to their computer. The only time I don't do this is when what they want will not work or will mess up the computer... then I just don't do it, period. No sense wasting my time and their money.

I finally contacted an online support service in Canada, gave the guy remote control of my computer. It took him 40 minutes to make everything work properly. $89.95 for 60 minutes, so I have 20 minutes left over if I want to get in touch with them again. They have a hard drive back up service that backs me up every 2 hours, but at $9.95 monthly I told them that was a little too expensive. I'll back up locally. I will! I will! I promise!

Thanks to everyone who read my OP and offered assistance.
