Vaccinations as requirement for employment

SRNS is requiring all employees to be vaccinated.

The decision was made due to the severity of the illness for people who are not vaccinated.

Over the past 2 months 12 employees were hospitalized and four of these have died. Average age is 48 years old and they were unvaccinated.

I work for SRR (same DOE site). I think SRR will make the same announcement soon. I know we have also had employees (unvaccinated) die over the past couple months and several in the hospital.

Augusta also had a pediatric covid death today.

While I understand that such policies can mean job loss for vaccine resistors, employers have the right and the responsibility to ensure a safe work environment. I believe no lawyer would say that a job is a right.

Companies are having a hard time keeping employees right now. The job market greatly favors the employees. They can create whatever unproven safety measures they want to be sure. It will likely cost them big.

Are you suggesting that there is no solid evidence that restricting access to the vaccinated will make the workplace safer?

Again, you guys make a lot of claims that fall apart when we dive into what the evidence actually shows.

I don't think it will in this case. These are pretty hard jobs to get.

The unvaccinated will face a hard choice, though. Los Alamos already requires vaccinations and it looks like this will be DOE wide.

I understand the reasoning. It has been proven unvaccinated have longer illnesses, suffer more serious consequences, and are more apt to die if infected with covid.

These are not facilities that can close or shut down. They are maintained 24-7. And they invest a lot of time and money in their employees.

This is what I mean my misinformation (even though it is just a cartoon).

The White House, the CDC, the FDA, the Military, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna all require vaccinations.

The WHO does not at this time.

So here IS the current policy. As you can see, no one in the federal government will be required as long as they test, mask, & social distance.
July 29 order from President Biden required all federal employees to confirm their vaccination status. Any federal employee who is not fully vaccinated is required to wear a mask at work, physically distance from other employees, comply with weekly or twice-weekly testing requirements and face restrictions on official travel.

Anyone working for a federal government department or agency is a federal employee, including the CDC and the FDA, which are both federal agencies under the Health and Human Services Department. That means the White House’s vaccine mandate applies to employees at the CDC and the FDA just as it does to employees at the White House.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a July 23 press conference that the Biden Administration had not mandated vaccinations for White House staff at the time. Her comment, which came nearly a week before Biden's order mandating vaccines for federal employees, did not refer to any future decisions regarding mandates for White House staff.

Same policy by Pfizer…………
PFIZER

Pfizer confirmed in an email that it has a similar policy for its U.S. employees.

"Pfizer is requiring all U.S. colleagues and contractors to become vaccinated as a condition of work or participate in regular weekly COVID-19 testing," a Pfizer spokesperson wrote. "This is to best protect the health and safety of our colleagues and the communities we serve. Outside the U.S., the company is strongly encouraging all colleagues who are able to do so in their countries get vaccinated. Colleagues who have medical conditions or religious objections will be able to seek accommodations. Colleagues are still required to adhere to all COVID-19 state, local and Pfizer safety procedures while engaged in Pfizer work."

MODERNA

Moderna announced on Aug. 20 it will require COVID-19 vaccinations for all of its U.S. employees by Oct. 1. Moderna says it will consider requests for medical and religious exemptions on an individual basis.

JOHNSON & JOHNSON

Johnson & Johnson confirmed via email that all of its employees in the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 effective Oct. 4.

"The Company announced today that effective October 4, all employees and contractors of the Company in the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19," a Johnson & Johnson spokesperson wrote Aug. 19. "Individuals who have medical conditions or other reasons not to be vaccinated will be able to seek accommodations."

THE WHO
badge-false.png

The WHO is headquartered in Switzerland and has staff working in the offices of 149 other countries.

The WHO confirmed in an email it does not have a vaccination policy in place for its employees, although the WHO said there are situations where a “strong recommendation to be vaccinated” might be issued and cited healthcare environments as an example. The WHO referred to its April policy brief for its current stance on mandatory vaccinations.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) does not presently support the direction of mandates for COVID-19 vaccination, having argued that it is better to work on information campaigns and making vaccines accessible,” the WHO said in that brief.

New guidance from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is causing contractors to change their COVID-19 vaccine requirements, and many of them criticize the guidance as diametrically opposed to the Biden administration's stated desire to increase vaccinations.

On April 20, OSHA released the new guidance in the frequently asked questionssection of its website for COVID-19 safety compliance.

The question asks whether an employer should record adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccination if the employer requires the vaccine. OSHA states that if a vaccine is required, then any adverse reaction is considered work-related and therefore it must be recorded. Under OSHA rules, most employers with more than 10 employees are required to keep a record of serious work-related injuries and illnesses. Recorded injuries and illnesses become part of a contractors safety record.

I am aware that all federal employees (and federal contractors) are not required to be vaccinated but have to record their states (as fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated, unvaccinated, or declines to respond)....I had to do that as well. But some federal agencies (the WH, CDC, FEMA) ate already requiring vaccinations. The DOE isn't yet but the Los Alamos facility has....and we are.

Show me. Your word is no better than anyone else’s here, contrary to your constant demeaning comments about many of us. WH, CDC, FEMA-let’s see what you’ve got.

Well.....you did show us your cartoon was misinformation.

The WH, FEMA, and CDC are requiring vaccinations.

The DOE is not yet mandating vaccines (individual sites are) but all federal and federal conteact employees have to complete a formal stating their status (vaccinated, partially vaccinated, unvaccinated, or decline to respond).

CDC, Pfizer, others do have COVID employee vaccine mandates | verifythis.com

FACT CHECK: Yes, White House staff must get vaccinated against COVID-19

Nope. The order referenced here is the same order in my post. The order that testing, masks, distancing will be required by non vaxxed. Not exactly what companies are imposing with loss of employment.

So I was 25% wrong and you were 75% wrong (with your cartoon post).

I can live with that. :Biggrin

I did find it interesting that you can choose "decline to respond" when declaring your status. Guess it means "unvaccinated"?

@Wingman68 ,

I wonder if the questionares are just weighing acceptable losses.

SRS announced Thursday that these questions had to be answered no later than 1200 hrs. At 1600 hrs SRNS announced mandatory vaccinations (they vaccinate onsite).
