HBSMN : Is the essence of the Gospel -- DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL ? Billy Sunday and other "temperance" preachers apparenly thought so . Maybe you should consider the words of Galatians 1:8,9 and 2 Corinthians 11:4 more seriously . Rightly handling the Word correctly is vitally important .

    Oh, I forgot that one.

    8. You continue to misquote scripture in reference to wine being "poison of dragons" after someone showed you that you were taking that out of context

But then deliberately misrepresenting the Word of God is okay as long as you are doing it in the name of grape juice, I guess.

The essence of the Gospel is trusting in the SINLESS Christ Who does not act contrary to His Word.

Billy Sunday and other "temperance" preachers were preaching AGAINST sin--sin is what separates man from God.

You are accusing HBSMN of preaching "another gospel" and "another Jesus", when in fact, it is you and your "drinking in moderation" gang who is doing that very thing. The Jesus of the Bible did not drink alcoholic/fermented wine--that would be contrary to His Word. Therefore, you and your pals are preaching "another gospel" and "another Jesus"

This thread has turned into another "alcohol" thread--the topic is "Victory in Christ"--please try and stay on topic.

I would argue that it is on topic.

Of course you would, you seem to want to disagree for the sake of argument.

I am glad you find it funny.

I usually don't argue this way..but when people claim temporary sinless perfection.....then I don't hold back too much.

NOBODY has claimed sinless perfection--temporary or otherwise.

    What is your problem?

None of us has said anything about sinless perfection. You, and others, have accused us of that falsely.

So you think it is impossible to go for any amount of time without committing sin? You must live a defeated life, as Linda64 said.

The Word of God declares that Job turned his back on sin. Not that he never sinned, just that he turned his back on sin.

If, when the temptation to sin arose, Job could turn his back on it, then we can as well for periods of time... not forever however, for we are still in this flesh.

God's Word declares we do have a way to way to resist temptation, not that we always would.

Paul sinned from time to time, we will sin from time to time. But we DO NOT HAVE TO give in to sin. Sin is a choice.

Going sinless for 24 hours is indeed temporary sinless perfection.
Do I need to go back and post the quotes?

Do I need to dig up the actual posts?
To my knowledge SFIC was the only one bold enough to actually post accounts of days where he claims not to have sinned but both of you have claimed it is possible.

No, quite the contrary. I am resting on my savior and not my own works knowing that if I fall, I will not be utterly cast down for the Lord upholds me with His hands.

Those people in Matthew 7:22,23 really thought the Lord would uphold them too. They were wrong.

Go ahead and trust in your abstinence and I will trust in my savior's grace.

I am not trusting in my abstinence. My abstinence is a result of obedience to God's Holy Word and His Son.

Just a question, if you drank 3 bottles of wine tonight and got drunk, would you consider yourself to still be saved?

If it is true that we will do the will of the Father because we are saved, why lie about the Son drinking an alcoholic beverage? why lie about the Son giving alcohol to man to drink?

Surely you do not think it is God's will for lies to be told about His Sinless Son?
