Actually it was a conservative who brought the Sunni Awakening to my attention. The just felt credit should go where credit is due. Can't fault a guy for being honest <defammatory comment edited - LE>the non-Christians at least, they appreciate honesty).

They mean that one little area where the surge took place and before that the Sunni Awakening took place. You know, that little corner of the country we now refer to as Iraq...

As many of you know my great nephew is a Marine in Iraq right now. He was recently awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his role in saving four of his fellow Marines lives. His mom just spoke to him two days ago and he again informed her of the peaceful situation. He has been complaining about not having anything to do (no recon patrols). Now his unit's materials are being packed up for shipment back home and his unit will be leaving Iraq soon. But you won't "news" like that from the media...:BangHead: Are our boy's winning? You bet!

Glad to hear this about your great nephew and let him know how much we appreciate the sacrifice he is giving on behalf of this great nation. We love him and want to see him home safe.

Carpro it is not black and white it is complex

    1. As I have stated before the major media is hardly active in Iraq anymore and the violence still continues only more so Iraqi vs Iraqi.
    2. Everyone agrees that the sunni awakening along with the surge helped that is Baracks position, problem was McCain being too braggadocios and having no humility that really blew it for him.
    3. What is winning??? it clearly is not black and white and it will never be, why if we are winning are we taking in 17.000 Iraqi's??? again it is complex

With all that being said, I think it is victory enough it was victory enough years ago and it is time to bring our men and women home, and they agree with Barack Obama in large numbers on exactly that.

GENEVA, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- US Assistant Secretary of State Samuel Witten told reporters Friday that the US is expected to receive in 2009 at least 17,000 Iraqi refugees for resettlement. He added, in a news conference today, at the conclusion of the meetings of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), that the US has received in fiscal year 2008 which ended on 30 September 13,823 Iraqi refugees for resettlement, figures that surpasses the target which had been set for only 12,000. Witten said that the State Department had contributed on 1 October 2007 to 30 September 2008 the record sum of USD 1.44 billion to help refugees, conflict victims, stateless persons and vulnerable migrants around the world. snip

    BBC

The US has accepted nearly 14,000 Iraqi refugees in the last 12 months and will take in another 17,000 in the next year, the State Department has said.

The figure is an eight-fold increase over the previous year, officials said.

The Bush administration has often been criticised for being slow to accept refugees from the violence in Iraq.

The UN estimates that more than four million Iraqis have fled their homes since the US-led invasion of 2003, with many going to Syria and Jordan. ...
