Although Snipes was found guilty, a three year sentence seem harsh. I've seen people convicted of manslaughter serve half this amount of time in prison.

I could be wrong, but from everything I've heard, it sounds like Snipes offense was a lack of understanding of the way money is taxed, more than any kind of attempt to evade the law on his part.
