Just as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience are many to be made upright.

It is indeed interesting that a Roman Catholic translation is honest enough to let traditional RC doctrine be vacated from the text. The translators had some integrity.

Peter calls himself a fellow-elder. There is no hint of Peter have a Pope-like power.

Peter had a mother-in-law. He was married. Shocking to the sensibilities!

Mary is regarded as anyone else. Who indeed is my mother?

Mary instructs others to do as Jesus asks. His power, authority and influence is clearly superior to that of Mary.

Wow....I missed your intent of those verses. I was focused on the renderings and not how they related to Catholic doctrine.

    Good point

Of course, the RCC does not fear the scriptural contradictions to their doctrine. Tradition trumps all.

    Rippon,

How does the NJB handle these verses?

    Mt 1:24-25
    Lk 2:7

    Matthew 1:24,25
When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do: he took his wife to his home; he had not had intercourse with her when she gave birth to a son; and he named him Jesus.

[Sometimes the English is inelegant. "When" isn't the appropriate word --"until" is.

    Luke 2:7
And she gave birth to a son, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the living-space.

    [living-space?]

    Luke 1:46b-47
My soul glorfies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
[That goes against RC dogma that Mary is sinless. She was in as much need of a Savior as the rest of us. A sinless person doesn't doesn't call on a Savior.]

    So does Luke 2:24
and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is prescribed in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.
[Joseph and Mary offer a sacrifice. Only sinners in the old covenant offer sacrifices.]

    ...agreed

Well, at least they left "first-born" in there.
