First , a confession . I have never owned a parallel Bible . It sure would have been easier when making all my Bible comparisons over the years !

So , even if you have never bought a parallel Bible -- what translations would you include ? I guess four versions would be standard .

My preferences are : TNIV , HCSB , NLTse ( not the old NLT from 1996 ) and the NET . The NRSV or REB could be substituted for the NET .

KJV, NASB 77 (or 95), ESV, NIV, HSCB

5 would make for awkward columnation, so I would like a column for notes ;)

I included the NIV - not because I like it since I don't, but because it is referenced so much still in SBC circles.

I have a KJV, Amplified, NIV, NASB, and it covers it all pretty good. The problem is it is so HUGE!!!

If I had my "druthers" I would like the NASB, NKJV, HCSB, and probably the Amplified. The Amplified is good for conveying the meaning through alternate shades of usage.

NASB, ESV, HCSB, and either the NLT or TNIV (I’m not familiar enough with either of them to know which one I’d like better)

I'd also like to include the KJV (AV1873) and the Message.

The large-print version should include a collapsible handle and wheels for ease of transport.

Like you Rippon, I've never owned a parallel Bible, but if I were to, here's it:

    NASB
    TNIV
    NLTse
    HCSB
    NET
    NRSV

I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it. Yes, friendly, I say.

But why would you substitute the NET for NRSV or REB?

Parallels usually include just four versions . If I can't get one with the NET Bible then I would opt for the NRSV or REB . They are not equivalent -- just fillers or substitutes .

Well, if it's just four then her it goes (as much as it hurts to leave some out):

    NASB
    TNIV
    HCSB
    NRSV

The NASB and NRSV are so similar you need another one displaying different renderings . I am surprised that you did not include the NLTse upon which you have recently lavished praise .

Well, since the NASB is my fav, I'll have to choose it over the NRSV.

Yes, I still praise the NLTse, that's why I said it hurts to leave some out.

But I have to keep the TNIV and HCSB, so the new list would be:

    NASB
    NLTse
    TNIV
    HCSB

    How about about!

I'm a big e-sword advocate and love the parallel text feature. I usually have my kjv with searchable strong's numbers and the esv, and mkjv. I'm one of the modern heretics that takes his laptop to church, lol.
