"I probably ought to go back and read 1984. It's one of those "everybody orta read" books."

Ya, I like current events as well :D

Reading "ABBA The Book" A good look at the four from birth to current events. It is laid out in chronological order with lots of pictures which makes it enjoyable for even me! ;)

Re-reading a couple of books that date back to the 50's and 60's respectively:

Sense and Nonsense in Psychology, H. J. Eysenck (London University, England)

Civilization, Kenneth Clark, outstanding English author and host to many BBC specials.

    Cheers,

    Jim

"History's Worst Decisions - and the People Who Made Them" by Stephen Weir.

A christmas present from my son, interesting reading, some political bias shows, but does display some of the idiocy of people, sometimes done with the best of intentions.

To all who want to know:

I am working through CS Lewis' "Mere Christianity" again (on CD audio book).

I am reading "The Theology of the Reformers" by Timothy George.

I am reading a rhetorical analysis of "Luther's Invocavit Sermons."

I am re-reading "Pilgrims' Progress" by Bunyan and his "Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners" for the first time.

I am reading "5 Minute Church Historian" by Rick Cornish and "Church History Made Easy" by Jones to teach my SS Class a Church History survey.

I am reading "Preaching and Preachers" by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones; &
"Between Two Worlds" by John RW Stott; &
"The Supremacy of God in Preaching" by John Piper. These three are textooks read to mentor a young minister with whom I worked online for a preaching elective.

I am also reading some various and sundry sermons & addresses like: "The Weight of Glory" by CS Lewis and "Bondage of the Will" by Martin Luther.

I have recently finished "Hard to Believe" by John Mac. It was probably the best thing I have read in years. Very eye opening!!!

I wish I had not written it all down now--it makes me tired when I think about it all!!!

    To all;

May I add a recommendation to my list above?

It would profit all to read:

"Hard to Believe" by John McArthur. It will "knock your socks off!" It may even cause you to doubt your salvation.

    Danger!!!! Warning!!!!!

DO NOT READ IT IF YOU ARE INSECURE IN WHERE YOU STAND WITH THE LORD!!

    sdg!

    Erin,

I read a lot of Stephen King years ago, but he seemed to be getting a little gory. The last one of his that I tried to read recently was Black House with Peter Straub, figuring I would enjoy that as much as the other one they did together (can't remember the name now), but there was just too much gratuitous gory-ness to it. I think the last one I read in those "Stephen King years" was Misery but there was one scene in which I just had to set the book down (and if you read it, you probably know the scene I'm talking about).

My son gave me Son of a Witch -- follow up to Wicked. I finished it on Saturday. I found Wicked disturbing -- Son was not quite so much so, but I'd not recommend it as it still was disquitening.

Otherwise I'm reading -- now hold on to your hats -- Writing training materials that work. I know you are all jealous on that one :D

I would guess in a sense that as people become used to being spoon fed information via TV or internet that authors to make money have to go beyond what is decent to appear on the edge etc.
