What the Bail-out Paid For

While despicable, it's important to note that the AIG "bailout" was in fact a loan that must be repaid with interest.

Think of it this way:

If the "loan" had been only $100,000 then the equivalent spent on the retreat would have been 4¢. And no one would be screaming about that.

The real crime is that government has taken over private enterprise and this relatively innocuous indescretion of the executives is being exploited to further the socialist agenda.

Yep, you're right. I hadn't thought of it that way. The next time I default on all my loans and have to file bankruptcy, I'll be sure to send myself (and not the rest of the family) on a vacation.

No one would care if your vacation budget were the same ratio. You wouldn't have the cash to walk out your front door.

The point was that the bailout was the crime, not the excesses of the execs. Sheesh! Is everyone a Communist these days?

I agree.

I've been loving the way Dave Ramsey has been explaining it....it has helped it be understandable, and he is right on how it should've been handled.

Here is his reaction to the bailout: http://www.daveramsey.com/tdrs/index.cfm/2008/10/6/YOU-fix-you?ictid=sptlt

Folks, back up a few steps. Yes, the real crime was the bail-out. What we need to point out is exactly what Dave Ramsey was saying: People wanted Congress to bail-out the economy. So what happens when people rely on government to "fix" their problems? The people who should be held accountable instead get to go on all-expense paid vacations.
