Political philosopher Yoram Hazony defines the Enlightenment for Prager U on YouTube.

The Enlightenment took Deep Time thinking from the Greeks, who got it from the Hindus, who had a hocus pocus view that has become billions of years for the age of both the earth and the universe.

As Hazony points out, the Enlightenment also spawned the bloodbath of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars. It was the time of Marx and Darwin, which is why it figures in the Biblical Creation of the world. The atheists and deists of the day speculated about Deep Time, which became part of Darwinism when Darwinism could not prove evolution. We now know that evolution is scientifically impossible and is another dead end of the Enlightenment, which now looks like just an anti-Christian period of darkness and ignorance.

The "Enlightment" seemed to be as much "Darkening" as anything.

BTW, I believe Napoleon was a "forerunner" to the coming "beast/antichrist". In his time, he conquered more territory than anyone before him except Genghis Khan. However, he fought more wars & battles & killed more people than anyone before him. (Hitler was the next forerunner.)
