Time to start getting the school supplies, back packs, etc. ready again as school is just around the corner.

Question: when does school start where you live?

First week of August in these parts.

We got some crazy leaders 'round here...they complain about energy costs, so they....

start school in the hottest part of the year.

Morons.

Wow. I didn't know school started so early -- I would have set up the poll differently.

Back in the old days, didn't school start in September???

Our kids start this coming Monday. The first week is called "Warrior Week" & almost all of the kids can't wait.

Here's why. When you think of the first week of school, you normally think of heading back to class & hitting the books. Intead, all 400+ high school students spend the first week of school at camp together. "Warrior Week" is all about building relationships with each other, spending time with God, and just plain having fun to start the new school year refreshed and ready to go. Really cool idea.

That was back when family time mattered to school administrators. :tear:

For years the schools in the state were stupid enough to have school start the thursday before Labor Day, then the kids had to go 2 half days and accomplish absolutely nothing. Last year it became state law that all schools in Michigan would resume after Labor Day.

The teacher's union whined and cried that it would 'disrupt' their schedules, the voters in essence told them to stop whining and adjust their schedules or else.

Not really, school let out for summer in mid June then too. Now it is mid to late May. Same amount of time basically, just shifted a month.
I would ask, isn't it families who no longer care about family time? I mean kids are home alone for the summer, or with a babysitter/ daycare, no mom at home. What do families do differently to have family time just becasue the kids are out fo school? Unless they can afford a vacation then the answer seems to be nothing.

Actually, there's 10 more days of school in AL than there was 10 years ago...15 more days than in 1980.
