I thought that there was a lot of this going on. Well here's the first Congressman to profit from this war (that's been caught so far). I'll be amazed if Cheney doesn't get indicted before long.

Cunningham resigns after bribery plea 26 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a California Republican, resigned on Monday after pleading guilty to taking $2.4 million in bribes in exchange for help in securing Defense Department contracts.

Cunningham, 63, made his announcement after entering his guilty plea on felony charges in San Diego federal court.

The eight-term Congressman and decorated Vietnam War veteran had already said he would not seek re-election in 2006. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 27, when he could be ordered to spend 10 years in prison and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.

I doubt the Republicans will be/are alone in profiteering.

I'm all for Cheney resigning. That would give Condoleezza a leg up for 2008. [IMG]

Why am I agreeing with KenH on this. I do think if Condi were to replace Cheney it would be a start in returning the dignity to office of he Presidency.

What is this about Cheney resigning? Why? Has he indicated something?

Cheney is always a possible resignation because of health issues.

Also, the best way for the GOP power wielders to set up their next candidate for the best chance of winning in 2008 would be to install him/her as vice president for a couple of years before the 2008 primary battle.

That's a shame about Cunningham... but I doubt he is the most crooked guy in Congress by a wide shot.

What he did was stupid more than less honest that what others do.

How is what he did substanitively different from liberal reps that consistently attain federal funding for Planned Parenthood or write environmental laws that enable the Sierra Club to sue corporations easily... then take contributions from those same groups?

Planned Parenthood and organizations on both sides like them are particularly egregious. They play a shell game that claims that federal money doesn't go to contributions to candidates. So what the federal money does is replace money that otherwise would have been spent on operations so that money can be given to candidates. Its a legalized scam that libs invented and have benefitted from for better than 40 years.

They just don't like competition from Republicans... All it tells me is that the money available in that scam is corrupting even those who said they wanted to reduce the size and scope of gov't to diminish the effects of such corruption.

Cheney will not resign until January of 2009. He is a good VP and I support him staying the course.

The next POTUS will be a Democrat. That person will be a one term POTUS. That person will be followed by a 2-term Republican.

That's my prediction based on past-election statistics.

I think that is a pretty good prediction, which is why this current president needs to do all that he can to win the war in Iraq and appoint pro-life conservative judges to the SC regardless of what the polls say. Don't give them the opportunity to stack the courts again full of liberals and surrender to the terrorists.

Didn't trust Bush 1 and don't trust Cheney.

I like Bush 2 specifically because I think he is doing what he believes is right in spite of the polls... I like respect real leadership and GWB demonstrates it without regard to the costs.

Condi will be at a good age in 2012(58 I think) to be elected POTUS. [IMG]

Personally, I predict that Condi will wait until at least 2016 to run. In the meantime, she will get involved in more local elected politics in a large state, get more experience in campaigning, and build a name and voting base for herself.

Joseph, you just stated that Johnv's prediction was pretty good that in 2012 a two term GOPer will be elected president. In that scenario, Condi couldn't run until 2020.

Seems like I remember hearing something about the Republicans restoring dignity and honesty to government just a few years ago.

Oh well, at least it sounded good.

But Terry, your suggestion was to elect John Kerry.

I would vote for Bill Clinton and put up with his philandering and lying before I would vote for John Kerry.

Republicans and Democrats, neither is above committing a crime.

    Think of politics like religion.

If a Christian preacher is convicted of embezzlement, would you say "which Christian is next?"

Your view of Republicans is no different than the view of Muslims is towards Christians.

Hogwash! My view of Republicans mirrors the way many Republicans view Democrats.
