Is there a shortage of instant white rice in your area?

Here in Minneapolis there is no instant white rice to be found. I went on Amazon to see if I could buy any and, yes, they have Minute White Rice for....$24.56 per pound. Yes, you can buy a 28 oz. package for $42.99!

Or, if you like get a 14 oz. package for $14.99. ($17.13 per pound)

ILT... There are rice paddies about a mile from me, they are all around us here in Sacramento, California... We produce a lot of rice but we are second in the country and here is a little rundown on who is first... $24.56 per pound?... That's outrageous:eek:... Brother Glen:)

Arkansas was the top producer of rice in the United States between 2014 and 2019, generating 84.26 million centum weight of rice in 2019. California came in second with 41.93 million centum weight of rice in that year. The United States exports a large volume of rice every year.Jan 29, 2020

By the way... I checked Costco and that is what a 50 lb bag of rice goes for!

Bought some ground beef today. I usually get 85/15 but it was $6.99/lb. so I got some 80/20 for $5.79/lb.

Sounds like you have the same problem I had with spaghetti sauce. None in stock for weeks. People are hoarding pantry foods and are driving up the prices and eliminating availability. Been that way since early March in my area.

Like Reynolds said, regular rice is the way to go. I used to struggle with trying to make perfect rice until my dad and brother pointed out that I needed to follow the instructions on the bag to the tee. Use two parts water to one part rice. First, boil the water with salt and butter in it, if you want it. As soon as the water boils, stir in the rice, reduce heat to a slow simmer, put a lid on the pot and set your timer for 20 minutes. Keep the pot covered and don't open it to stir it or check on it. When the timer goes off, remove it from the heat, take the lid off and fluff it up.

One last thing. Brown rice requires more than twice the time to cook than white rice. When you eat it, you will notice that the texture is different, somewhat spongy.

Make your own sauce. Buy canned tomatoes and stew them. Then add spice, onions, garlic etc. Simple!
