I also have heard them state that while we are secure in God, and he will never drop us, we have still free will to take ourselves out of His hand!

Jesus said “no one” can take His sheep out of His hand. That means no one, not even His sheep. He said He would not lose one.

We didn’t earn our salvation, and we do not have to earn perseverance. Jesus keeps us secure, Holy Spirit indwelling is the down payment promise that what Jesus said is true

    peace to you.

Big reason why eternally secured, as God Himself has sealed us by the Holy Spirit, and will one day give to us our full inheritance!

Have you noticed that Heb. 6 comes after Heb. 3? Psalm 95 is quoted.

Jewish Christians are particularly addressed, in a situation where to confess Christ meant rejection & persecution by the Jewish authorities.

As in the Exodus they followed their leader up to a point, & did not receive the promise because of unbelief.
Heb. 3:12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

16 For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

How many are there in our churches today who like to think they are saved, but without a living faith made evident by a committed life?

How many think right with God due to being water baptized, go to a church, and "good person"
