Being a commuter, I am blessed with radio ministries. I hear J. Vernon McGee every day. His show is called "Through the Bible". He goes through the whole Bible in 5 years. He has been home with the Lord for several years now, but his radio Ministry is re-broadcast throughout the world.

If I'm lucky enough to be late, I get to hear Charles Stanley!

    Wow. I can't choose.

Max Lucado - He has a gift for presenting the word of God, as it is written, putting it into allogorical words anyone can understand, then going back to the scripture.

Billy Graham - Do I have to explain?

Corrie Ten Boom - Amazing testimony.

    Christine Marshal - Amazing testimony.

    C. S. Lewis - The ScrewTape Letters are an amazing look at how Satan tries to trip Christians.

Ben - do you know that Charles Swindoll is Mormon? I can't put a Mormon on the list.

Where did you learn this? I did a search and cannot find anywhere else that says he is a Mormon.

It is possible the person who told us this was incorrect, but we were told this by a Mormon Elder who is one of the people who built a Mormon temple in our city. (We live in a city that we consider to be under siege by the Mormons. ) During a discussion about why we do not consider Mormons to be Christians, this Mormon elder pulled out one of Swindoll's books, and said, "Look, don't you agree with Chuck Swindoll? Well, he is Mormon," and then began to flip through the book pointing to passages that he said came from the Pearl of Great Price.

It was the first time I had ever heard it, but I asked several other Mormons in town, and they all insist that Swindoll is Mormon.

To be honest, I never questioned the accuracy of these Mormons until this thread. After doing a search for his history here, I can see why the statement is such a shock, and I can easily question the accuracy of the Mormons who said he was Mormon.

The Mormons are heretics and false teachers. They do anything they can just like the JW's to brainwash their people in their hope of convicing others htat they are Christians. They have done quite a good job by grabbing mostly Catholics and Southern Baptists through their proselytizing. Their aim since they employed a consulting company is to improve their image by talking about Jesus more. What else woulkd you expect from an angel of light. About 20 years ago they would stand at your doorstep and deny they are Christians and tell you they are LDS. Today the young missionaries will stand at your doorstep and deny they were ever told to say that.

The one who masquerades as an angel of light will steal, kill and destroy.

    Take a look at http://hismin.com/

They were former missionaries. She is a former translator for the Mormon church.

Sometime if you get a chance take a look at the video "The Mormon Puzzle." The Mormons tell you what they believe with their own lips.

    GB,

Actually, my daughter is a missionary, her mission field is the Mormons. The "Mormon Puzzle" is interesting. Mormons will tell you it is a lie, then turn around and say, "Yes, we do that," if you break it down to a point by point basis.

You are right when you say the majority of converts to Mormonism are from the Baptist Churches.

Some of the experts in this mission field think this is because Mormons teach divorce is okay if the person you divorced wasn't a Mormon.

My daughter believes it is the lure of their very, very strong family unit. A huge number of people in this world are looking for a people that stands firm on family values, and when they see the Mormons they think that they must be Christian because they are so very family oriented.

It may be that Swindoll's friendship with Colson (sp?) is why the Mormons call Swindoll a Mormon. It may be because Swindoll has recommened some LDS books on family life to others.

Being accepted as "mainstream Christian," is a goal of the LDS. Certainly saying the President of Dallas Theological is Mormon would tend to lend endorsement to LDS, but that doesn't necessarily mean Swindoll agrees with that label. So I do concede to people who say he is not LDS.

Dennis and Rauni Higley at http://hismin.com/ will tell you it is because one doesn't know their Bible is the reason one goes into Mormonism. When I started pastoring an SBC church frankly I was shocked at how little the people knew about their Bible. The SBC has some great Surveys of the OT and NT called Step by Step Through The Old Testament and Step by Step Through The New Testament. They are some of the best I have used in helping people to know their Bible.

One of my neighbors came to me one day because their daughter joined the Mormon Church. They told me she had professed being a Christian. she had been homeschooled and they read the Bible in the home regularly.

We got together and talked about what we could do. She would not talk with me or her parents but would talk with her brother. She would give me what I would call an evil look. She wanted nothing to do with her parents. So I worked through her brother. She did finally come out and was somewhat embarassed that she had actually joined the Mormon Church. It boiled down to the fact that she wanted friends and didn't know her Bible very well.

Ditto here. Looks like about the 4th or 5th vote for Ravi. Brilliantly gifted and incredibly humble. Got to see him speak in No. Virginia last month for the first time- he's finishing a new book with Jesus in conversation with Hitler... I can't wait.

For those of you touting John Piper, I concur...

I started downloading John Piper's sermons from his website after reading some of the stuff on his site and really liking it. All I could say after listening to the first message I downloaded was "unbelieveable". I told my wife I had never heard the Word preached like that in my entire life, and I've heard alot. He preaches in a way that, frankly, drives you straight down to your knees before God.

I challenge anyone to download some of his sermons and listen. I think you will learn immensely from his preaching. His "ROMANS" series digs deeper than any expositional preaching I've heard in ages...

Caution: If you like "milktoast" preaching, and don't like weighty, meaty stuff...you won't like Piper, trust me, his preaching is ultra-deep Theologically speaking. Stick to the "God is good, God is great, thank you for the food we ate" preaching from some other preachers!

I also like Macarthur, Sproul, Swindoll, Lutzer and A.W Tozer...

As far as a nationally known person I pick Joyce Myers, because she's straight forward and tells it like it is (although I know there are a few here that will post things that are from the past aginst her, but today she stays on track with Gods word).

    J. Vernon McGee is tops in our home. He is timeless.

Our son and son-in-law really enjoy Tony Evans--I don't know anything about him though. Maybe someone could fill me in.
