Why are some school good and others bad?

I'm just saying that within 15 miles of where I live I can take you to a completely dysfunctional high school where almost no one graduates qualified to succeed in college. Five miles in another direction is a school where the kids are absolutely kicking butt. Same state board of education, same state budget. The difference is the community.

Yes, it's demographics and community. You guys should read Hillbilly Elegy by our newly elected Senator J.D. Vance. It's hard to break out of your demographic whether you're a black kid, or a poor white kid or whatever. The two best things in our country for doing that are the public school system, and the military. The public schools are worth fighting for if for no other reason than you really don't want all "those" kids coming to your private school waiving a government voucher.

Look at the stats.
As to why, I can only speculate.
School districts with high rates of White and Asian races performed the best. Those with high rates of blacks performed the worst.
My theory is that it is due to the statistically high numbers of Black families that have no father in the home.
Economic is kind of self explanatory

The public school system will never get anyone out of anything. If there is any measure of the school system in ones mind that says "If it ever gets this bad then I will have to pull my kids out of the public school system ."

You might be right, with the stuff that's happening now. All I'm saying is that without a functioning public school system, where a young person can, if they really desire it, get a decent education - you cannot have a successful modern democracy. If you know of one, let me know. When the public school system is completely ruined, they will come for the home schoolers, like they did in Germany, where it's illegal. And your Christian school will be overrun with people carrying vouchers and then because the vouchers are publicly funded all the federal goofiness will be applied to the private schools too.

The best equation is a dedicated mom AND dad to help that child
Now, if a child does not have a dad - does not mean he cant be successful,
its just that mom has to work a bit harder.
I beleive Ben Carsons mom was that dedicated - even though she could not read,!
