PP states that they need Federal $$ to help poor women. Well PP is NOT the only center to help.

I heard four arguments from two non-Christian friends this past week.
1) The child would be neglected and mistreated do to being born in poverty. (notice the not so subtle idea that only people in poverty have abortions).

2) Forced birth is wrong. (but somehow sex outside of marriage is not wrong)

3) The fetus is not equal to a person after birth. (a common eugenics argument whereby society places more value on some stages of life and less value on other stages.

4) A child with an uncorrectable genetic disease (downs syndrome, spinal muscular atrophy, etc, should not be caused to suffer, but should be killed out of mercy and love).

This last one was once made by a former high school mate of mine who condemned my brother and sister-in-law as wicked and evil people for having birthed 3 children with SMA who all died before school age. This last argument gets my blood boiling.

Babies born in poverty are prone to live outside of the law.
The crime rate dropped significantly after abortion was legalized.

My wife's cousin used an argument similar to what you've said. something to the effect of "good thing God values the life of the woman more than the fetus," but she made an FB post from a year or so back when she was pregnant talking about her "baby." Their logic in regards to the unborn is very much in line with the Nazis who determined who was human and who was a "parasite." Fetus is Latin for small human btw.

I had a Catholic friend who had spent years "in the trenches" protesting at abortion clinics. He said he had encounters with pro abortion people who would admit that it is actually a baby, they just want to be able to kill it.

One additional factor is that the original birth control pills had three mechanisms of operation one of which was the suppression of ovulation. Another was a thickening of the mucus so that the fertilized egg could not implant into the uterine wall.

Over the years they have decreased the amount of hormones in the pill (presumably for cost and health reasons). As a result the mucus mechanism may be the predominant method of function today. Since this would cause a de-facto abortion, One has to consider that surgical abortions in the millions may pale in comparison to the number of chemical abortions.

'I am in favor of liberalizing our abortion laws, because I'm a human,' Dr. Criswell told newsmen in a press conference during the Baptist General Convention of Texas meeting here through Thursday. Abortion will be debated by the convention Thursday morning. The Dallas clergyman who is a messenger (delegate) to the San Antonio meeting said that present U.S. abortion laws are 'very, very uncompromising.' He said much of the U.S. feeling on abortion resulted from 'theological doctrine that comes largely out of the Catholic Church.' The Roman Catholic Church is strongly against the idea of abortion. Dr. Criswell said, "The wife should have the privilege of aborting a conception."
