Cindy, I am glad your boy has allowed you to share his pain and struggle. My friend in college would not tell his parents, even though he said his mom was his best freind. I tried to encourage him to at least tell his mom, but he would not. I told him if it was my son I would want to know, because I would not want him to suffer alone. I would want to be there with all my heart no matter what.

    Cindy,

Your situation is not unique, I know of another very similar situation.

It is a good thing that your son knows the thoughts and emotions are sinful, that is a first step. There are some wonderful ministries that exists to help folks who struggle with this sin.

Who knows why things have turned out the way they have, but we still have no evidence that there is a specific tendency to any particular sin. Sin is sin and certain sins appeal to certain people. There are some sins I have struggled with and some that I have never had to battle. I don't think this means that I was born with an inclination toward certain sins.

I also do not think you and your husband need to spend hours wondering where we you have gone wrong, that is not the solution at this point. I prayed for you all this morning. I know that dealing with any sin is a terrible struggle. May God give your family great wisdom the kind of wisdom from above found in James 3, to deal with your dilemma.

Having an extra male or female chromosome does not make one gay. It might make them talk or walk more feminine / masculine. But, it does not force them to lust after someone of the same gender.

    Cindy,

I will certainly pray for you and your son as I am sure it must be difficult. It sounds to me that your son might have taken on what is generally percieved by society to be more feminine interests, but, that does not mean he is gay. I hope you don't mind me asking, but does he actually lust after other men, or is he simply more feminine than our society thinks is acceptable? I know several men who have feminine voices and interests (cooking, decorating, etc...) and are happily married heteros. Being more feminine does not = gay in my opinion.

I believe homosexuality can be a genetic predisposition. And just like a genetic predisposition towards violence or pedophilia does not justify any actions resulting from that predisposition, neither does a predisposition towards homosexuality.

I do not believe sin nature is transmitted genetically but spiritually through some manner I do not comprehend.

God loves all murderers, pedophiles and homosexuals and wishes to reconcile with all of them. While the first two are consistently taught that their misdeeds are sin to be avoided after conversion, the third group is not in some churches. While open to the idea that I could be wrong, I believe we should lovingly and gently guide our homosexual brothers and sisters to a recognition of their sin. The same is true of slanderers, gossips, those struggling with greed and all the many other equally abhorent sins in the bible.

Based on the data, this is the posisition I think it is wise for us to take. Just because one has a genetic predisposistion towards spatial skills does not mean he will be Picaso!

Being that we are not genetics experts or Doctor's in this field, I would not make a determination on what it makes them do. My only point is it is often cited as justification for the "gene makes them do it aregument". But it is so very rare, that it would not have anything to say in general about homosexuals and transvestites and does not prove anything and reallly has not place in the discussion. But from experience, I figured someone would bring it up.

Even if we were to totally concede the existance of a "gay gene" it would not negate what God's word says about homosexuality being a sin. It would not negate the need to preach against this sin. God says that it is sin, either He is right or He is wrong.

Cindy and her family need our prayers more then anything else as they seek to see their son delivered from his sin.

There are sins that I have had to battle my whole life, it is only when I began to see my sin the way that God does that I had victory over those sins.

bhakthi mentioned the "abominable sins." Where in the Bible are these identified? As far as I know every sin is abominable in God's eyes. Any one will give you a sentence to Hell for all eternity if you haven't accepted Christ into your life. Other than blasphemy of the Holy Spirit I don't think the Bible suggests that one sin is any worse than another. Comments?
    Sure-
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.

All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death. 1 John;5:16,17

We are all human. We are all born into sin. We are all born with a sin desire. Homosexuality is a sin desire--- one of many. With the aid of the Holy Spirit and encouragement from fellow saints of God, homosexuality can be overcome. The closer one is with God, the further away he will be from his sin.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."2 Corinthians;5:17

Oh, yes, definitely. I am related to gay "Christians", somehow they reconsile their beliefs. Sin satifies the flesh, homosexuality is no different.

Dealing with homosexuality, as any sin begins when we see the exceeding holiness of God and the excedding sinfulness of the flesh.

    I agree C4K

    Cindy,

I am praying for you and your family. Your son is truly blessed because he has the support of his parents when he most needs it. I have met, through email, many Christians in his predicament and it is a heart wrenching struggle they face every day. They will not engage in their temptations, but they cannot seem to shake them, and they are lonely and depressed. A little compassion and encouragement from one Christian to another can really lift spirits. We all have our sins and we all are tempted.

A continual sin struggle doesn't denote that someone doesn't want to give it up. I truly believe that sometimes God wants us to take some of the responsibility for our overcoming (although not the majority if it) and we sometimes don't think we're able to handle our load. We are, but because we're human, we drop it sometimes. If someone wants to stay the way they are and claim to be a Christian, then they should read James. But just struggling with a sin and not being able to shake it is not a sign of being unsaved. It's a sign of being human. And, more importantly, a sign of being fallen.

I don't condone homosexuality or alcholism or drug use, but we can't expect everyone to change overnight. Sometimes it takes time. To quote the grand theologian  Amy Grant, "It takes a little time sometimes/ To turn the Titanic back around". Sometimes we can't accomplish big things immediately. It takes work. And that is where the church needs to step in and disciple new Christians and help people overcome their addictions rather than leaving them to themselves . And this will take more than giving them a lecture, handing them a Bible, and wishing them well.
