Why is it so important to use the KJV only?

I would like to understand the passion that people have regarding using only the King James version of the Bible. I am seeking honest, straight forward answers because this is a mystery to me.
What is the reason a person who is KJV only tries so hard to convince others of this belief? Does our salvation depend on it? Are they concerned with the spiritual welfare of others?
I hope we can talk about this without insults.

It is what they are taught, and what they then believe.

There's nothing wrong with using the KJV only... until that is elevated to something above personal preference. It then becomes an extra-bilicular teaching, a man-made belief and doctrine. This is not an attack on KJVO... it holds the same for ANYTHING that is added.

As Paul wrote, "If any come preaching any other gospel..."

The questions I like to often ask them is what did Paul the apostle use? What did Martin Luther use?

I think that silence kinda andwers your question.

(Just leave me alone in my ignorance and my trusty NKJV.)

I think you're right. I'm really disappointed that I couldn't get an honest answer to a legitimate question. I guess I will have to draw my own conclusion.

NKJV works best for me. To answer the question of the thread, "it isnt."

I would argue that it is because God is going to hold us accountable at the judgment seat of Christ. You ought to at least have a good idea of what He requires of you before you get there.

And I would argue that the Judgement Seat of Christ and the KJVO have nothing to do with each other.

Thank you for the response James. Now if God requires me to read the KJV only and will hold me accountable for it at the judgement, then is this the reason why you are so passionate about it? Are you worried for my soul?

I'm more passionate about Christians keeping God's commandments. And yes, I care for your soul Amy.

    James 5:19-20
    19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

I think that the Lord has given us a perfect representation of His will, and we ought to use it.

I use my KJV only because it has all my corrective notes, and besides, I did all my memorization with it. It also has a lot of my sermon notes in it. There isn't a better copy for sermons; point one, point two, point three...........perfect!

    Cheers,

    Jim

James, is my soul in jeopardy if I study from a NKJV? Will God ask me to give an account for not studying the KJV?

    Amy,

You might need to wait a bit before a KJVO proponent shows up. If you're looking for a fast reply post this same thread in the KJVO section (I think there is one...or at least the Bible Translations area.)

KJVO proponents are few and far between, rightly so imho since their doctrinal dogmas are divisive simply wrongheaded. Also the proliferation of other, thoroughly competent translations and the knowledge of Christian history has done them in.

I'm not going to say that God is necessarily going to judge you for using an NKJV. I'm saying that you are going to give account for every idle word. We all are. If God is going to so scrutinize our lives, would you want to know God's will perfectly? Or just good enoughly?

I'm sure I can think of other doctrines that are just as divisive.

    Luke 12:51
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

Doesn't that, then, require a better study than the words of the KJV? Should every Christian become fluent in greek and hebrew?

Agreed. But, we're addressing the KJVO right now.

Ok, so God will not hold it against me that I use the NKJV. Why do you?
Is the KJV the only version that teaches about idle words?
Matt 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement. (NKJV)
But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judement. (KJV)
I think I can learn about idle words from both versions. You also will have to give an account of your idle words when you speak critical words against a brother or sister in Christ because of their choice of Bible version.
