I grabbed a jar of Vaseline recently at Dollar General and needed it last night as I burned my right ring finger while cooking.
After finishing cooking, it was still burning, so I opened the new jar of Vaseline and put some on my finger. I sat down and turned on the TV as my brother was not quite ready to eat yet. While idly watching, I sat there with my hand across my mouth and I could smell something like vanilla.
I had NOT just used vanilla in cooking the hamburger meat
- so I smelled of the Vaseline on my finger. Yep - there was the smell. I said to myself, "Vaseline doesn't have an odor. What is this with Vaseline smelling like vanilla?'
I got up and reopened the Vaseline jar and took a big whiff. THERE it was. But not vanilla - cocoa butter!
It was confusing. THEN, I noted the cartoon figures of women of color. No problem there. I don't care who is on the jar.
BUT THEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw this written across the jar:
I was flabbergasted! Since when has Vaseline NOT been equitable or been discriminatory or not worked on anyone's skin??
Vaseline is the most BENEIGN substance to put on one's body that I know of - except for water.
Sigh - I googled Vaseline and wokeness and sure enough - Vaseline is now heavily woke.
I won't stop buying it, but it all surely makes me want to scream.
