Just checked my app. I actually said 2-1 as well. But happy I was wrong.

    Better late than never

With a score of 1-5, the House of Orange once again smote the Castilians hip and thigh. After 500 years, Madrid is still losing.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge sports fan, and I love soccer/futbol ...

But why is this in News/Current Events when there's a Sports Forum on the board?

Now, mods ... could'ya please put this thread where it belongs? As much grossing as you guys do about members putting threads in the wrong forum, how's this one been allowed to hang around N/CE for days?

That said, did anyone else see Clint Dempsey's goal :31 into the Ghana match?

It is a current event that is newsworthy.

Must confess that I did not expect the U.S. to win over Ghana.

I'll move the thread when the Cup is over. Since even my 90 year old, born in Sand Point Idaho father is watching the matches, it's staying here until then.

Brazil and Mexico should just settle this already with a solid game of rock, paper, scissors.

I'd say that they are well matched today.

So true. The Mexican goalie should be given a national award. What a magnificent game he played.

Watched most of the first half with my previously mentioned Dad. For someone whose only sports growing up were high school football, Pacific Coast League and House of David barnstorming baseball, and rodeo, he turned out to be quite observant about the play

Ochoa was lights out. I've never seen a 'keeper that well attuned to what the attackers were doing at all times. He was never out of position and always knew what he was going to do with a shot. Mexico needs to give him a big fat bonus after today.

If you're on Twitter, World Cup 2014 (@World) has a great pic of him, shows him in the center and him repeated in his various motions. And you might crack up when you see "Ochoa be like..."

    Expect plenty of officiating "gaffs".

FIFA Refs are some of the most corrupt on the planet.

What impressed me the most was how the Mexicans kept the Brazilians from scoring even though Brazil was ahead in time of possession. In some ways, Mexico won by not loosing.

They did that by packing the box every time Brazil brought the ball into the attack. I couldn't find, on any of the shot attempts by Brazil I saw replayed, less than six backs and midfielders either inside the six-yard box or just outside of it. Hard to get a ball through a wall like that, and those that did get through, Ochoa took care of. It was an impressive defense, but not conducive at all to mounting a counterattack.
