I've heard the argument on this BB and in other places that "God would not command men to do something that they are unable to do." Those who hold to such a conclusion base it upon logic rather than what the bible declares. They claim that calvinist doctrine makes God a hateful god that is not the God of their bible. When we teach the inability of men to repent and to come to Christ, without being regenerated by the Holy Spirit, are we in error? Do we teach heresy when we say that men are dead spiritually and unable to respond in a saving manner? Would God command men to do something they can not do?

Yes God most certainly commanded man to do something we are not capable on our own accord to do. With man this is impossible...but with God, all things are possible.

I agree brother. Some would say that to do such would be a flaw in the character of God.

They would be in error and have no right to question God since he is way above our understanding and is sovereign while we are not.

And your quote from Matt:19 is specifically speaking of salvation. You are both on solid ground.

    peace to you:praying:

Well the Spirit is already there striving with all men so God is already doing His part when He commanded man to repent, now just do it.

2Pe 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

No, you believe God grabs them by the hair of the head and we believe they follow the Spirit of God to repentance.

Yea, I bit and too big for you to drag in.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't you one of the people I was talking about that would say that God would not command us to do something we can not do?

I have no idea what people you were talking about, I am not a mind reader.

You tell us what God commanded of men they can't do?

If you will read the OP it states that men are commanded to repent. I say they are unable to repent of their own ability due to being dead spiritually. I don't really think you need me to explain this do you bro bob? If so just say so.

Of course, the bible says so. I also believe that none can unless the Holy Spirit regenerates their dead spirit. You do not believe this. Now answer my question. Are you one of the ones who would say that God would not command people to do something they can not do?

How can God command men to repent if they can't hear Him? If they can't hear Him then its not a command.

I didn't think you would answer me bro bob. I'll have to find the thread where you claimed that God would not command men to do something they could not do. I'll post it when I find it.

    Romans 8:7-9 says this:
Did Paul exaggerate? Is it possible for a lost man to please God?
