I never could stand Rush Limbaugh, but thought Beck had a good head on his shoulders, despite some overly exaggerated opinions and theories.
However, I did have a lot of agreements and started building a little trust in stuff he said if it was a topic I had little knowledge on. In other words, a trusted source of information so far as trusting others goes, which shouldn't be extremely far in any case.
Finding out he is a Mormon blew that trust away. Having left that false religion, it still stuns me that a man of his intellectual capacity hasn't done the research and concluded that it is false. Blatantly false...once you do the research.
I'm left to conclude that
A. He didn't do the research on the LDS church and believes anyhow, which makes him untrustworthy on other topics. If true, it is understandable but not excusable.
B. He did the research, knows the truth (that the LDS faith is false), and for some mysterious reason chooses to lead others astray. Sounds a bit too conspiracy-theorist to me but anything's possible and there definitely are benefits to being a big-shot in the media and in the LDS church, so perhaps that's not as far-fetched as it seems at first glance. If true, it is not understandable, is evil, selfish, and makes him 100% untrustworthy.
C. He did do the research and honestly believes in his heart that Joseph Smith was the prophet for our time. If this is true it is understandable but sad and still makes him untrustworthy as a credible source of information because he is not a good discerner of truth.
He has done some very good things and does have some good input on various aspects of politics. He sounds like a tender-hearted guy with some great family values. I can relate to him on certain topics. However, I cringe when I hear so many Christian Baptists hold him up as a credible source of information for other Christians.
Why go outside the faith to find a leader? Are we that lacking in knowledgable people within our own faith? Do we really need to hold people of false religions up as our example of great religious values? I can't agree with doing so. I personally consider him just as I do any other source outside of Christianity...sometimes entertaining, has some good ideas, but do not value his opinion over the opinion of anyone else out there. He hasn't earned that from me and shouldn't have earned it from any other Christian...and LDS isn't Christian.
