I think a poll like this has not been posted for some time:

What is your personal standard version of the Bible?

I know that some use two translations. One for devotional reading and one for studying, preaching and teaching but try to pick the one that you consider your "standard Bible"

This is similar to a thread from several months ago, where the question was asked, "If you were stranded on an deserted island and could choose one Bible, which would it be"?

My standard Bible(s) are the KJV, NKJV, NASB and ESV (plus the NIV and NLT occasionally). I would take the ESV to the 'island'.

A poll that allowed multiple choises of "standard Bible(s)" would allow all "Multiple Version Onlyists" to show their 'true colors'. [IMG]

    I couldn't answer either.

I use the KJV/NKJV together and the NASB as supplemental as it is often times more technically/grammatically correct IMO than the NKJV (apart from the "deletions" of the CT).

It didn´t want to make it a multiple choice poll. I began to wonder when 3 people chose 5 different versions. Sorry, it should be a "pick one"-poll...

Picking one and you have only English translations of the Bible as options? How can one be sure of ANY translation being faithful to the Greek/Hebrew without giving us a choice for the Greek/Hebrew itself!

What about the OT? As long as we are not able to read Greek AND Hebrew and as long as we don´t have it in ONE volume... we have to pick one [IMG]

Why? even the KJV translators said that a proliferation of translations was a good thing in order for us to better see "the sense of the Scriptures".

I chose NASB because that is the one I usually study from and go to if I am looking something up in a debate (like here on the BB! ;) ). However, I use the NET Bible quite a bit, too. Maybe the NET Bible should be up there in the poll. I've noticed others on the BB referring to it. Its notes are helpful and I like to see their translation of some of the difficult passages.

Right now, I am taking the NKJV to church. I also like to read the NLT. Also, I often go to the ESV site to copy and paste scripture. But if I don't like their translation, I'll get the NASB. Never use the NIV or King James, though I have those, too.

I can still remember the first time that I read through the Greek New Testament. I was expecting some "new revelations" of some sort, but it was so very similar to the NASB New Testament that I was disappointed and thought that I had wasted a lot of time learning how to read Greek. However, if it were not for the NASB, learning how to read Greek would be very important.

Now, after many years of studying the Greek New Testament, I can still see that the NASB is the most accurate translation, but I can also appreciate the care that the translators of the NASB applied to their work. One area in which the NASB stands head and shoulders above the other English translations of the New Testament is in their translation of Greek verbs and the Greek tenses. In this regard, no other translation even comes close. But of course, had I not studied the Greek language, I would not be able to appreciate the accuracy of the NASB, and I would have no understanding of the differences between the Greek tenses and English tenses, and those differences would be lost to me even in studying the NASB.

I cannot truthfully vote for any answer.
My Final Authority is the Holman Christian
Standard Bible (HCSB). It is not listed.
Because i cannot vote, i cannot see the
results of the poll. Please post the
results of the poll here. Thank you.

    Thank you Brother Jesus.
It would be difficult to list all
the MVs. I have a particular liking
for the 1611 Edition of the KJV
    (with the translator footnotes).

I voted for the ESV because the HCSB was not an available choice I have used the the NASB for most of my Christian walk. but this past year I have been using the HCSB and ESV more.
Before the NASB was updated in '95 I used the NIV, (aka Non Inspired Version) but I was just a babe in Christ then still on the Milk. The NIV is used at my church.
