“Mugabe was widely expected to use a televised address on Sunday to announce his retirement so that Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom he fired as vice president this month, could take over. Instead, he delivered a rambling and largely incoherent speech, in which he pledged to preside over a December congress of the governing party, which had dumped him as leader earlier in the day.”

The Cubans have an eye on this. Fidel was close friends with this monster Mugabe.

Cuba's friends will still be in power after Mugabe is pushed aside. The problem is Mrs. M tried to make herself his replacement. And the powers that be in Z said no.

the New York Slimes claims he has resigned finally:

Robert Mugabe Resigns as Zimbabwe’s President, Ending 37-Year Rule

well, I wasn't even two years old when he grabbed office, that's a lot of time for him to run the country into the ground. Unfortunately, the replacement can be worse than the previous dictator and it's very likely now that China will descend upon Zimbabwe and pick the bones.

I have two uncles buried out in Zimbabwe and another who came home and died in Britain.
Whilst I have no time for the white regime they supported in Rhodesia, there is no doubt that Mugabe turned a prosperous country with wonderful natural resources into the direst poverty.

I thank God that Mugabe has been ejected peacefully and pray that whoever takes over will have some basic competence and respect for the rule of law although, humanly speaking, I am not very optimistic.

Zimbabwe is going to need help, and if it doesn't get it from the West, no one should blame them if they look for it from elsewhere.

One Zanu-PF strongman after another. Does anyone really think that Zanu-PF will allow free and fair elections next time around?

The Chinese have more money than we do. We are 20 trillion dollars in debt. The Chinese are pouring money into Latin America also and they have bought dozens of American corporations. Maybe Russia will help through Cuba, as I assume that it is Russian money that forged the close friendship between Fidel Castro and Robert Mugabe. Mugabe went to Fidel's funeral and everyone was thinking that Raul would be going to Mugabe's funeral. The British are experts in that area so let them send money, huh?
