I've been involved in AWANA at 3 different churches. I've functioned as a Commander and as a leader in different age groups (from cubbies through 24/7).

On the whole, the concept is great. For younger kids it works well. As the kids get older, they begin to not enjoy the handbook time and council time.

I was an RA growing up and loved it. Too bad that NAMB has pretty much abandoned the curriculum.

At the church where I get to serve we do AWANA and love it. Great, great program. I'd encourage anyone to utilize it.

Nope, and I have no children. I grew up without attending on Wed nights at church and they had church training on Sun nights.

I was an AWANA clubber from Kindergarten through Junior High, then became a leader while in college. The hundreds of Bible verses I memorized during those years have stayed with me. God has used them to remind me of his influence in my life and I've been able to draw on those verses when confronted by others needing spiritual help.

Sometimes we don't have time to grab a Bible and search for a certain verse--but when the verse is committed to memory, we can recall it to help in certain situations. The one problem I have is that I remember the verses, but I don't always remember the references.
