What is his crime ? Prove yer not posting this up to start a flame war, and tell us his illegal act.

Why should it start a flame war? Free speech has limits. It is illegal to threaten or incite someone to assassinate the President. He is obviously hoping to get some body with a loose screw to do the deed. I wish I could say I am surprised that anyone would defend this baptist pastor. He is a cancer on the body of Christ. This is the same guy who called for the death of Dr. Tiller.

There are LOTS of cancers on the body of Christ. King David prayed for the death of lots of people, including kings. Was he a cancer ?

If I pray for Obama's reign to be a short one, am I a cancer ?

While I disagree fervently with this supposed Baptist pastor.. I also worry about what the left will do with "Hate crime" legislation.

I am praying that God will use someone to lead our President down the paths of righteousness.

If God takes him out, then that won't happen.

Threat or Criticism
Where is the line drawn? When does a critical remark become a threat? On one extreme is the off-hand comment, the letter to a friend, the email to a co-worker, or message posted in a newsgroup. On the other, the twisted psychotic plot. Clearly, the circumstances of delivery make a great deal of difference. A "letter to the editor", or speech intelligently attacking the President's every action and policy is our right and should never be construed as a physical threat. Screaming obscenities in the President's face, sending threatening mail to the White House, or publicly stating a desire to see the President harmed are not only acts of shameful disrespect, they should always be considered threats under the law.

I didn't see you complaining of the leftists doing this when Bush was president.

I disagree with the pastor, along with most of the S.B.C., for that matter, but it sounds like the thought police are on their way. Supported by some of the same folks who thought the Patriot Act was such an infringement.

If I had heard of such threats against Mr. Bush, you can bet I'd be speaking out against it. I am not for violent coup d'etat in America, regardless of which party is in power. I am not the subject, either. This renegade pastor is.

My prayer concerning the Obama administration is "Deliver us from evil." I'm not choosy about the form of that deliverance.

Note: MP is for incarcerating political prisoners, and legislating prayer.
Nice spin, Zeus, but it isn't prayer or politics. It is for advocating the death of the President. That is inciting violence against him. THAT is the point...not prayer nor politics.

As a proud Southern Baptist, please understand that Drake doesn't represent the SBC - just his own views.

That's your spin. The guy is just praying that Obama die. He may be thinking of an aneurysm or a ruptured spleen.

I'm praying for deliverance. Again. Not choosy about the form. I would prefer a scandal to avoid making a martyr out of him, but if God chooses an arrow drawn at random, who am I to argue?

Interesting how many on the BB feel God is not still in control. That perhaps the man he allowed to become our leader is the right man in God's plan. I'd hate to be on the wrong side of that plan. The fear and expressions of gloom and doom show that some do not truly trust that God is still in charge.

If we don't like a leader, we can vote against them. This is not a banana republic.

I just started a thread on this in the General Baptist Discussion forum because I wanted views on imprecatory prayers. So if you have a view on that, please post there if you are Baptist (sorry, non-Baptists!).

Here is the link. It's under the title of "Imprecatory Prayers -- Your View?"

Also, I asked if the church this guy pastors is truly a So. Baptist church. I ask because of that guy who has the "Baptist" church in Kansas and goes around with his family with hate signs - his church is not really a church but more of a family cult led by him.
