David Letterman is in the hot seat for several crude jokes he made on CBS' "The Late Show" about Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter.

Letterman, in his monologue Tuesday night, noted that the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate attended a Yankees game during a trip to New York City, where she was honored by a special needs group. Letterman referred to Palin, Alaska's governor, as having the style of a "slutty flight attendant."

The "Late Show" host also took a shot Palin's daughter, while poking fun at the Yankees' third baseman.

I think there are a lot of these entertainers that have gone tasteless. Limbaugh as well as Letterman. What's sad is they each have a listening audience and many of the crowd laughed at Letterman's joke.

I think David Letterman is a pure comic genious. Light years better than the Conan one or the guy from England. Much better than Leno.

Letterman is in a league all his own, which make me wonder why he takes "the low road" so often lately...like this example.

He doesnt have to sink down to this level to be good.

Letterman is a joke with the lowest ratings on TV.

Rush has never said something as crude as what Letterman said.

What would have been the response if Letterman had substituted Michelle and her daughter...

I believe Rush reached that level of lowness and maybe even lower when he made fun of Michael J. Fox and MS a few years ago.

Some people would have been outraged and I expect some here on this BB would have chuckled.

CTB, why change the topic? Why not just admit this was a horrible thing to say, and leave it at that?

I don't have a problem with comedians making fun of political figures as long as its done in good taste. David Letterman's problem is he went after Sarah Palin's 14-year old daughter, who attended the baseball game. Her daughters are not political figures. When making jokes, it should be limited to just the figure. In terms of the president, I believe that the first lady is fair game because they get involved with things too, but again, it should be tasteful comedy.

I always thought that Dana Carvey's impersination of George H.W. Bush was funny. I also liked Phil Hartman's impression of Bill Clinton. When I saw Tina Fey dressed up as Sarah Palin, I almost couldn't tell the difference. In fact, the only way I could tell the two apart was by their voices. I can always spot the exaggeratted "Hockey Mom's" voice.

On Mad TV, there was a sketch done where a guy was dressed up like Steven Segal. This was done during the 2000 presidential election. Segal was telling people to vote for Joe Lieberman. Anyone who voted for anyone else other than Lieberman, Segal would pretend to snap everyone's neck. Even a guy who voted for Al Gore wasn't safe.

And when he referred to then-13-year-old Chelsea Clinton as "The White House dog".

Letterman is good, but I want Leno back. I have never cared for Conan.

    I was responding to:

It was a horrible thing to say, but not nearly as bad as making fun of a person with MS. Do you agree?

He didn't make fun of anyone's MS. He aptly described how M. J. Fox was exploiting his MS to influence local politics in Missouri.

As usual, you are wrong again. He sat in front of a camera, imitating the movement of a person with Parkinson's. But I'd expect you to excuse such behavior.

Fox doesn't have MS. It is Parkinson's.

Thanks for the correction. MS or Parkinson's ... making fun of either is very low. I would not wish either on my worst enemy nor make fun of anyone who had either.

A person can criticize another they disagree with in a polite way. To make fun of the shaking of a person with either MS or Parkinson's is over the line, ver low indeed.

From what I understand about this, Rush was merely pointing out that Fox didn't take his prescribed medication, which caused him to sway more than he would if he had actually taken it.

I agree Donna.. and yes, Crabtownboy, I condemned Rush when he did what he did...

I hate crude and rude jokes.. Period...

But Letterman crossed the line when he made a sex joke about a 14 yr old girl with an adult male....

Letterman's ratings are sinking, so his jokes does too.

Really? ROFL Why do you never back up your pronoucements?

And if there was nothing to it, why did Rush later apologize?
