    Time Magazine

"Obama has told White House aides that instead of joining a congregation in Washington, D.C., he will follow in George W. Bush's footsteps and make his primary place of worship Evergreen Chapel, the nondenominational church at Camp David."

"Camp David's current chaplain, Lieut. Carey Cash, leads the services at Evergreen. . . . Cash earned his theology degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth — and, yes, that means Obama's new pastor is a Southern Baptist."

Just because someone holds a degree from a SBC seminary doesn't make him or her Southern Baptist.

Surely they could hire Jeremiah WRight to replace him, couldn't they? Pull some strings, B O!

That's true, but the vast majority of them are. I certainly hope the Time magazine reporter did their homework to verify whether or not the pastor is a Southern Baptist though.

The article makes it clear he is not Southern Baptist.

I didn't see that, can you point out where it says that Carey Cash is not Southern Baptist?

Sounds pretty SBC to me, not sure how you got that from the article. But hey it is a position that rotates every three years so it could have easily been a UCC chaplain, you know from the church he just resigned his membership from. Now that would have been interesting!

I suspect Pastor Mitchell is simply being disagreeable.

I hope he lives and preaches like Jesus. That's what the Obama's need.

I would expect that they would find such to be "close-minded," "intolerant," and "hateful rhetoric."

Hope they'll hear the truth...and obey it.

We need to pray for and find ways, if possible, to be supportive of Chaplain Cash in this awesome role. It is no mean task to preach so that the entire parish is instructed and moved, as well as the president. In other words, Cash will need to think in broader terms than his most famous parishioner.

Are we remembering the Nixon days of worship services at the White House, and there was a strong suspicion that only those preachers who would not criticize the Vietnam War or take stands on other hot-button issues would be invited. We were rightly concerned that the preachers not be "kept." Obama and Cash are not in exactly that situation, but the temptation on Cash to please the president's fancies might prove overwhelming.

As I said, let's pray for him and see if there are ways to assist him with resources.
