Michael Moore was wrong about health insurance.

So were President Bush, Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), presidential candidates former Sen. John Edwards and Gov. Mike Huckabee and The Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, People magazine and Time magazine, as well as CNN, CBS and ABC.

Each of these people and media outlets incorrectly claimed the number of uninsured to be 40 to 50 million Americans. The actual total is open to debate. But there are millions of people who should be excluded from that tally, including: those who aren’t American citizens, people who can afford their own insurance, and people who already qualify for government coverage but haven’t signed up.

Government statistics also show 45 percent of those without insurance will have insurance again within four months after job transitions.

Accounting for all those factors, one prominent study places the total for the long-term uninsured as low as 8.2 million – a very different reality than the media and national health care advocates claim.

Of course, since our fascist state will now fine people for the horrific, unspeakable crime of not having healthcare...that number will probably go down.

One other thing: I'm still looking for the reference, but I know there was at least one study that counted illegal aliens in the "uninsured" category. Talk about dishonest statistics...

I agree, that is why the best proposals only claim to cover about 97% of the people. Without going to the single payer system, there will always be some who believe they don't need health care or will irresponsibly not pay the premiums. We then pick up the tab when they go to the emergency room.

As for illegals, Medicaid pays for them.

The exact number is irrelevant since there is far more to reform than just covering the uninsured.

Costs are going up faster than inflation which is not disputed. People who get sick are being kicked off their plans and folks with pre-existing conditions can't get coverage. Talk about rationing care, the insurance companies are currently refusing to pay for long term treatments and as deductibles and out of pockets maximums rise most people can't afford their portion. This means they can't afford a procedure the doctor says they need because doctors are now asking for their part upfront.

I read and it may not be all true that 60% of all bankruptcies have medical bills involved. That means the doctors and hospitals have to recoup that cost from the next sick patient. It also means a doctor might order a few test, schedule a few extra visits just to make ends meet.

It is really getting our of hand and I believe the time for reform is now.

Did I misunderstand him last night or did he say something about doing away with Medicare to help pay for this plan? To me, that would seem like passing a death sentence on our elderly people. Especially, if they are rationing healthcare services to certain people.

After about twenty minutes I couldn't stand to listen to him anymore. Even with the teleprompter, he's just boring.

Seniors would be effected the most and the worst under his plan. But it really doesn't look like anything is going to happen this year on it anyway. Maybe never.
