Yup. I also heard Cris Matthews whining about people exercising their blood-bought right to keep & bear.

This warms my heart. What better way, and who better to show it to, who serves who in this country. We ain't giving up our lives so easily. We ain't France, or Spain. And God bless us.

Free men openly exercising their inalienable rights in the USA? How dare they?

Your title is misleading. The men were not there to see the president. They were exercising their state right to open-carry and the second amendment was not an issue.

Also, did you see the man in the photo? Sure did not look like the stereo-type the government is trying to portray.

I don't know, he took an assault rifle to see the president and on the streets around innocent women and children, he fits the mold to me.

PS... I've been reading up on this and the only restrictions is where the Secret Service puts the security ring. This is similar to the zone where you must go through the checks and metal detectors to get any closer. They also have the right to detain and/or take the gun if they feel the president is in danger.

I also am a card carrying member of the NRA, but the 2nd does not give us the right to carry weapons to see the President.

Why would you do this? What kind of stupid message does this send? Exactly the wrong kind!

The 2nd Amendment isn't about being able to see the president with a firearm but to be able to bare arms. With the past issues such as the assination attempt on Regan and the current threats the President may put a restriction on those who visit him not to carry firearms unless they're LEO with in a certain distance. Arizona allows to carry openly and so there is no issue there. I think its sad that in PA we have no laws (except in Philadelphia) to prohibit carrying openly yet try it and you'll end up getting arrested for some other charge like disturbing the peace. However, we did have that one case with the soccer mom who carried openly was arrested and a higher court over turned the conviction.

What are your thoughts?

Here is one thought.

Is there something "fishy" here?

Were these individuals leftist pretenders?
Just wondering.

"Assault rifle?"

An AR-15 is a single shot, semi-automatic, with some extra plastic.

Period.

I wouldn't want to "assault" anything with that.

The AR-15 is a modular firearm. It wasn't originally built that way but is now. You can have your AR easily modified to fire automatically (I suggest three round burst). But then you would need to have your NFA registration and pay the extra tax on it. Note: with the AR-15 if you have a really fast finger you can assault quite a bit. I'm begining however to like the FN.

Over 21 years I fired just about every weapon in the US inventory except nukes.

They all fired projectiles. Not once did we ever call one weapon an "assault" anything.

"Assault rifle" is a made-up media term that means nothing, but implies sisnister intent.

A weapon is a weapon is a weapon. You're right about the media using the term Assault but they have a specific meaning. Which is a firearm designed specifically for use in warfare (ie killing people). Now certainly you can use an AR for hunting but most people I know who hunt don't use it for that purpose. (In a non-military; non LEO; setting usually for target shooting). However, you can Assault anybody with anything. So I get your point. And I'm glad you haven't got to "fire" nukes. I have a feeling that would be bad. However, I can't say I've fired everything except nukes. But I've fired 9-mils ; M16 (AR-15) and the striped down model. I've fired the old M-60 (the pig.) I've fired shotguns. I've fired rifles. and my most fun was with the MK-19 from on top a hummer.

The 2nd amendment to the Constitution reads:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Note, it says a well regulated Militia. I do not see this fellow as a part of a militia. He was only an individual attending a protest, this in this instance he is not covered by the 2nd amendment IMHO. Was that proper? I don't think so. Was it legal? Probably. Was it smart. I don't think so.

The recently decided Heller case found the 2nd Amendment to be an individual right, thus making the "well regulated militia" rejoinder moot.

Every firearm can -- and has -- been used in warfare: from blowguns to clubs to shotguns to missles.

The "Assault rifle" term is applied to any firearm that is black or green. The anti-gun folks love to distinguish between "Assault" and "Sporting" arms so they can divide the and confuse, but the Remington Model 700 in .308 is the US Army's sniper rifle, while at the same time it's an immenseley popular hunting rifle in .270 and .30-06.

My Steyr ProHunter is all black, but it's a single shot bolt-action .30-06 designed to shoot a projectile.

Its up to me to control where the projectile goes.

.308 is a perfect caliber for most hunting. And the sniper rifle is a good hunter firearm. Black or green covers most firearms and in a silly way of distinguishing an "assault firearm". I just won a Thompson Center Icon .308 Winchester. Beautiful firearm. and I'm certain if I had the desire to kill someone I could but it wouldn't be classified as an assault firearm because its neither black or green but brown. It does have a black rubber pad. Does that fit the definition? No I'm pretty sure an Assult firearm is one that is specified for military use. BTW you can go skeet shooting with a green or black firearm.

To clarify -- my point is that the "assault rifle" term is meaningless.
