Like him or not, he was the last of the post WW2 - VietNam War generation heros. My generation is functionally dead. The VietNam War so screwed up this country that the next generation has produced zero heros and zero national leaders. I can't think of anyone over 40 and under 60 years old who is fit and in a position to lead this country . . . Arnold the Schwartzer?

What qualifies Ted Kennedy as a "hero"?

    Bleakkkespttttt cough cough....

That is the sound of me spitting my drink while I read the OP...

A hero my foot... his family pulled strings for him to be stationed in Paris while there was a war raging in Korea...

It reminds me of the scene in MASH where Winchester is sent to Korea...

    A hero???!!!! Ha!

What a laugh... He was a hero of Hell!

then you all agree that your generation is a big, fat zero and you think the hero is the guy who eats the most hot dogs at the county fair?

As christians I think Jesus is our hero, and when we have human heros they are to be christians, and they are heros becasue of the faith. And there are plenty worth calling a hero, and none are a zero.

I have no human heroes. The hero comes from Greek tragedy and mythology.

The closest thing to a hero is the mother that keeps her baby while facing hardship...

Or the father that lives a Godly life in front of his family.

    Ted Kennedy was no hero.

I don't think you intended to do this, but you seem to link the late Senator Ted Kennedy to being a hero. He wasn't a hero for me. I'm just saying...

I can think of plenty. Often we only let the media tell us who should be important.

And on that note I want to say this: the media has absolutely destroyed our national identity over the past three decades. Name one good person who hasn't had "dirt" created about them. There is a deep desire to be the first uncover the truth about someone and dig up the dark secrets (even if they don't exist) of supposedly good people. We've got a whole system set up expressly to destroy people. That is a problem.

Talk about pulling strings! You should really despise the Bush family after the strings they pulled to get W. in the Texas Air National Guard protecting Texas from the North Vietnamese!

You could turn a recipe thread into a Bush slamfest.

Why not? Saltcitybaptist want to turn it into a Clinton slamfest. I guess you are alright with it as long as it is a Democrat who is being slamed.

BTW, was I accurate concerning Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard?

A person's religions affiliation or personal faith neither qualifies nor disqualifies a personfrom being a hero. There's no reason why a Christian can't have nonchristians as heroes. Benjamin Franklin is a hero to many, as are George Patton, Thomas Jefferson, Amelia Earhart, Mahatma Ghandi, and the list goes on.

A man that hides behind his name to avoid the consequences of his actions while someone else dies is no hero. Kicked out of Harvard for cheating. Removed from army intelligence school . Released from the Army before his enlistment was up with the rank of PFC. (not exactly a testimony to his leadership abilities)

    As a senator:

Ted Kennedy's name and the word hero don't belong on the same page.

It is an affront to the thousands of real heros that rest there that his body was buried in Arlington National Cemetary.

One, you brought it up. Be a grown-up and take responsibility.

Two, I wasn't Bush's supervisor, so I don't know. If he skipped out, that's wrong.

Three, your posts have nothing to do with the OP.

Four, what, exactly, is "slamed?" Past tense of "slimed?"
