A Florida man was unable to cash a Bank of America check because the bank required a thumbprint, and he had no arms.

WTSP has the story of Steve Valdez, who tried to cash a Bank of America check written by his wife to him. He took the check to a BoA branch, presented two forms of picture ID, and was prevented from cashing the check because he couldn't provide a thumbprint. The manager refused to accommodate Valdez, suggesting that he open an account if he wanted to cash the check.

That is about as stupid as the sign I saw at McDonald's wall the other day behind the cashier... it said ... "Braille menus available.. if you need one, ask for one"...

Gee.. .let me see.. If I was blind... I WOULD NEVER SEE THAT STUPID SIGN!!!!...

Common sense has flown out the window in this nanny state.

This is a corporate decision, not a government regulation.

No, it was the decision of a stupid local manager. Trust me, if corporate had been involved they would have told the manager to cash the check on the spot.

You are probably correct. My point was that it was the decision of either the corporate office or the manager, not governmental interference.

I didn't see anyone say it was government interference.

You just reminded me of a joke that a prank phone caller (Willie P. Richardson) once did. He called a shoe store pretending to be a man with only one leg & told the clerk that he lost his left leg in Vietnam. Then he asked since he didn't need the left shoe, if he could purchase the right shoe for half the price. Needless to say it put the clerk on the spot & was hilarious.

I have long sense giving up on people having common sense.

Another good one is when there has been some type of diaster and the power is out - the local television stations tells people if they need help to contact _________. If you have no power, how are you going to hear the message to know where to get help!?!

They must not have generators in the show me state, but being here in Florida I have one and will crank it up. No need for me to sit around without lights and let my fridge get hot :).

As one who has been through a few hurricanes, usually people will stock up on batteries. They'll power their radio with them & listen as the TV stations will broadcast over the radio. A lot of times they will provide information or take phone calls to get an idea of what's damaged or which parts of the city or county have power restored.

A long time ago, when I delivered office supplies, I always wondered why they had braille numbers in the delivery elevator. (Must have been for that van I saw with the canes on both sides of the vehicle.)
Some buildings had braille next to the numbers on the doors, but they were never in the same place from building to building and some even from floor to floor. Now how are they going to know that there is a sign there to read?
