I knew the connies have a heart attack over this. Imagine if today's right wing was around for the Nuremberg trials. Imagine bringing Nazis to justice. And what about Saddam Hussein being tried in a *gasp* civilian court in Iraq?

    The Germans were defeated first.

Hussein was a citizen of Iraq.

    Apples and unicorns.

    Find a comparison that fits.

In a local paper, in the letter to the editor section, there was a Yankee who complained about the amount of time it took to build our roads in the south. Went on to give examples of how it is done up north and continued to berate the contractors in Florida. The next week the owner of one of the road construction companies responded to the Yankee. He said:

"We don't care how you all do it up north".

The truth is there are reasons for the difference. Much like with terrorists. There are reasons why we must do things differently. Comparing Iraq and Germany to America is apples and refrigerators and the very reason why reasonable people who do not have an agenda to destroy the previous admin do not care how they do it elsewhere.

Good thing I'm not a Yankee! Speaking of road construction, I don't know if you are ever in Jacksonville, Reverend, but it's one big construction project here.

That is interesting. After you have put a subject up for discussion and folks respond with one-word comments you call it having a heart attack?

The Nuremburg trials were military tribunals. You know, the very thing that the Obama Justice Department doesn't want.

Since most of Saddam's crimes were committed against Iraqis it seems right that he would be tried by them.

    Hello, Islamo-terrorists: Welcome to Illinois!

    SOURCE

This is probably the most treasonous act committed by a US president in a century or more.

Obama should go to trial for this one...for giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States of America.

Dollars to Doughnuts that some goon will be released on a technicality.

One thing I will say, echoing the source above: I hope it's freezing cold, and that these camel jockeys get frostbite in some mighty embarassing places.

We have a winner! That's my whole point. KSM committed a crime against civilian targets in violation of civilian law. There is no need for military tribunals in this case. The Young Turks had an interview with Glenn Greenwald that lays out the case for trying terrorists in United States District Courts and goes over a lot of legal theory involved. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kL5ut2xzbw It's a bit lengthy, but it makes the case better that I could. Anyways, I've got to get ready to go to work. I'm working from 1-10 today so it will be late tonight or tomorrow before I can continue this conversation.

Did not have to see it very long before he began misrepresenting Military tribunals and the Bush admin. In his demcom world if the terrorists go to civilian court they get a trial if they go to a tribunal they are not given a trial. This is false and a blatant lie.

He also tries, unsuccessfully, to paint the Bush admin as having created Military Tribunals. What an idiot.

He has not a clue what he is talking about. You might do better to find a source somewhere other than salon.com.

No need to hope for bitter cold in Illinois. That's a near certainty. Sometimes I wonder whether moving to Tennessee from Illinois was the right thing to do, and most of the time, including this time, I'm glad we moved from Illinois to Tennessee.

A violation of the Geneva Convention.

We can expect complaints and lawsuits from abroad.

However, since these warriors of Islam have been granted American citizenship rights, I guess the GC just doesn't matter anymore.

Except that evidence gathered by CIA interrogators will not pass muster in civilian court (Miranda rights and all that). Plus that fact that Obama has publicly stated KSM to be guilty. Bad move there.

But if your task is to put Bush policies on trial and divert attention away from domestic agenda that the Obama admin is trying to jam through, then civilian trial is a wonderful tool!

You couldn't be more wrong, alatide, if you tried.

These are terrorists. They do not have, and CANNOT BE CONSTITUTIONALLY AFFORDED, the rights of US citizens!

Good grief! Why can't you people understand the simple rule of law? What do you have against the sovereignty of our country? Why do you wish to put us at risk again? Wasn't 9/11 enough of a tragedy for you?

I do understand the rule of law. What you connies misunderstand is the way the rights in the Constitution work. They are not limited to U.S. citizens. They are limitations on the government. And how are you "put at risk" by terrorists in a maximum security prison? If I had anything against the sovereignty of our country, I would turn terrorists over to the Hauge. I don't so I want to try them here.
